Parker PolhillHow did you get started in music, and at what age did you feel a love for it?

I started getting involved in music when I was around 7 or 8 years old. My uncle, Uncle Ash, was in a band and had a little home recording studio. We used to write little fun songs and record them; nothing major, it was just for fun. As I hit my teens and during high school, sports took over all of my time and I didn’t do anything that involved music. In high school, I had a friend who knew I could sing and he was able to convince me to sing at my high school graduation along-side a few classmates. That graduation performance sparked my interest in music again. I had a friend that was a producer at the time so I recorded a handful of covers and put them on Soundcloud. The covers got a good response so I kept doing the covers and started writing music again. I decided to fully pursue music shortly after and have been getting my first project prepared ever since.

Did you have musical mentors? It’s a tough business, but you seem to be navigating well.

I do have a couple mentors when it comes to music, but the biggest thing that convinced me to pursue music as a career was the responses I was getting from my friends, family and people that just found my covers on the internet. The reaction people had was better than I thought it would’ve been and people were willing to invest their time and energy into my music to help me get better. So many people were telling me I should pursue it and with where I was in life it made sense. I enjoyed everything about it. I fell in love with music and everything that comes with it.

How would you describe your music?Parker Polhill

Personally, when I listen, it is beautiful and a mixture of genres. Music started out as an emotional outlet for me. So when I started writing, most of the songs I wrote were ballads and emotional. As I started to grow as a writer I began writing all types of music. Now my goal when it comes to my music is to make the listener feel something. Anywhere from pain to just a fun vibe I want to leave a feeling of some kind with people whenever they listen to my music and I want it to inspire them in one way or another.

I know you are incredibly busy. Can you describe a typical day for you? Or, no day is the same?

No day is the exact same. As of now I am part time in Atlanta and part time in Nashville, but I also travel to LA a good bit to write. So my daily schedule varies by the city I’m in, but pretty much every day I am writing, recording, working on different instruments, and working on choreography. Also, a few days a month I have vocal training and choreography lessons. So my schedule is kind of all over the place, haha!

Congrats on your February 14th debut release titled Soul To Keep. It’s a beautiful melody to your future wife, who you have not met, yet, but it’s very inspiring and a great concept!

Thank you! I was with two of my best friends for the first time in a while and both of them were in serious relationships. We got into a conversation about marriage and how crazy it is to think that within the next couple years they might be married or engaged. That conversation led to me thinking about what kind of message I would want to give my future wife if I could talk to her now. So I started writing a song to her called “Soul To Keep”. The song was one of the easiest songs I’ve ever written. The lyrics came quickly and later on I brought what I had written to a buddy and we perfected the song and recorded it. It turned out exactly how I wanted it to!

How far do you want to take your musical career? Also, if you were not involved in songwriting, what do you see yourself doing?

I want to take my music career as far as it can go. I dream of inspiring people world-wide and going on multiple world tours. If I weren’t in the music industry I would be still pursue acting and be an entrepreneur. I would start my own company. I’m not exactly sure what kind of company, but I would find something that I am passionate about and create a company around that. I still plan on starting my own company or brand along- side my music career when the time is right!
