The Occhi Team wishes all readers, artists and entertainment colleagues the very best during this unprecedented time. Our thoughts remain with those who have already lost loved ones. This is a health-related, social and economic crisis that will no doubt affect the wellbeing of many. This is a particularly worrying time for self-employed creative professionals and small businesses working in the arts, contributing to both local and national economies. The industry is vital to how society emotionally and psychologically manages this crisis. If there was a time to appreciate the arts this is it!  The Occhi Team will continue to support and highlight exciting projects and initiatives as best we can through the magazine and other channels.

Appreciative of health professionals and the pressure they’re under, we implore you to be extremely careful and mindful of the World Health Organization recommendations. Please also refer to your national government’s advice. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently and not touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow). The World Health Organization (WHO) will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available.  Please visit the WHO website for the latest information.
