The Sunday Shorts Film Festival is returning to Vancouver on August 21st, 2022 at the Park Theatre with worldwide submissions. After its debut in 2019, Vancouver’s Sunday Shorts returns to celebrate a brand new batch of international filmmakers. “Sunday At The Park with Shorts”, the live-screening portion of the festival; which previously only showcased local BC films, is now expanding to accept submissions from around the globe.
“We are thrilled to be opening up the festival to an international market and creating a great place for filmmakers to connect and showcase their work. There are so many talented filmmakers in Vancouver and we think opening this up globally will only elevate the already stellar talent we have seen to date,” says Festival Director Christopher Logan. More than 100 entries have been submitted already from countries including Canada, the US, Australia, Iran, the UK, Ukraine, Turkey, Singapore, Denmark, and Austria.
The top films will advance to become Official Selections, with a panel of industry judges selecting the winners. The jury includes Academy Award-winning Costume Designer Angus Strathie (Moulin Rouge), Cinematographer Stirling Bancroft (Monkey Beach), Talent Agent Kathy Carpenter from KC Talent, Tug Phipps from William F. White International, Tosca Musk from Passionflix Streaming Service, Producer/Director Gabriel Correa (Riverdale) and actor Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica).
Sunday At The Park with Shorts is a light, fun Sunday afternoon vibe where filmmakers and the public are invited to watch films, make connections with talent and judges and build a network for future projects, all in a relaxed no-pressure atmosphere at one of Vancouver’s most historic theatres.
The Sunday Shorts Film Festival is made possible through the support of William F. White International, UBCP/ACTRA, Pink Media, KC Talent, Passionflix, Vancouver Film School, and Pender PR. Prizes include cash, film rental/equipment, a licensing deal, PR support, and LGBTQ+ Films/Filmmakers will get coverage with interviews broadcast on OUTtv.
