Blending equal parts alternative pop, hip hop, and rock, the singer-songwriter and producer Sam Smisek is creating a sound that is distinctly his own. Incorporating distorted, woozy guitars and energetic, hard-hitting percussion inspired by the underground punk scene he grew up in, elements of hip hop through 808’s and candid, direct vocals, the effective simplicity and immediacy of pop-inspired songwriting, and the emotional, intimate connection that indie music emanates through honest, vulnerable lyrics and DIY instrumentation and production, Blisshouse. is the sound of the experiences of navigating through life.

Teaching himself how to produce his own music in his studio apartment, Smisek started making music under Blisshouse. in 2019, post-hardcore outfit More To Monroe decided to split up after the dissolution of his previous band. Soon after beginning this new endeavor, Smisek moved to Seattle from his hometown of Frederick, Maryland, ready to carve a new path for himself. Only months after moving, Covid struck, leaving Smisek cooped up in the house with ample time to hone in on his sound.

While his first album, Home, drew inspiration from ambient alternative rock/indie songs and trip-hop, sophomore LP Confused & Conflicted meshed elements of grunge and hip hop, Smisek is now making songs that unapologetically incorporate any genre or sound he’s inspired by at any given moment. The first single of this new era of Blisshouse., “All Night”, was written alongside Josh Strock, who co-wrote and co-produced “Sid & Nancy” off of Machine Gun Kelly’s latest LP Mainstream Sellout. The song is just the first taste of what is to come for Blisshouse.
