Variety and the Whistler Film Festival (WFF) have collaborated on a new program. Unique to WFF, Variety’s 10 Canadians to Watch celebrates top Canadian talent in the film and entertainment industry. The full list of honorees has been announced and the multidisciplinary program highlights a talented group of individuals, including screenwriters, directors, producers, actors, and musicians. This year’s honorees include some amazing artists from in front of and behind the camera including Métis composer, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Justin Delorme. The 10 Canadians to Watch honorees will be celebrated at the Whistler Film Festival on December. 3rd.
”To be invited to Whistler and recognized in this way by the Whistler Film Festival and Variety is an honor that I am extremely grateful for,” says Delorme. “To be included among such talented creatives is a great privilege and an exciting way to end an already fulfilling year of collaboration and music. Being a part of the teams for Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On and Diaspora, which both screen at the festival makes it even more special.”
Justin has music credits on two feature films debuting at the Whistler Film Festival this month including Deco Dawson’s Diaspora which opened at Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and Madison Thomas’ award-winning documentary Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On, which debuted to sold-out audiences at TIFF 2022. As a composer, Justin’s multifaceted musical identity can be heard across a wide range of genres and mediums, including all 52 episodes of the Nickelodeon animated series Best and Bester, True Story, which debuted on The History Channel in September, APTN lumi and Revry original Querencia, as well as APTN and CBC’s acclaimed true-crime series Taken, which earned him a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Original Music. Justin has scored more than 200 episodes of television, 6 feature-length films, as well as dozens of short films and documentaries.
Justin works from his studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba, making use of a vast collection of instruments and effects. He is represented by the Core Music Agency and is a member of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada, On Screen Manitoba, and SOCAN.
Variety’s 10 Canadians to Watch will be celebrated in a Signature Series conversation on Saturday, December 3rd, at 12:00 at the Maury Young Arts Centre in Whistler. The full list of honorees is available here. The Whistler Film Festival starts on November 30th, 2022.
