SAVE US is an alternative rock/metal group founded this year, with members spanning two continents. The band explores the human condition, delivering emotionally charged hooks nestled in atmospheric textures. Fusing a myriad of sounds, the band takes each listener on a journey through the many facets of the human mind. We had the pleasure of catching up with the band members to discuss their music, projects, and more!

Guys, Thank you for agreeing to catch up with Occhi Magazine. What drew you all to a career in music?

As straightforward as this answer might seem it’s just the love we have for the art. For all of us, music is a huge part of our lives to the point it would feel alien to not be involved with it in any capacity.
Miguel – Growing up I always loved singing along to my favorite songs and not one person in the world would be able to get me to shut up. I knew at a very early age I wanted to do more than listen to my favorite songs. I wanted to create my own sounds, sing my own lyrics, and be on the big stages.

Who were your early influences and how did they impact your career

Chris – Both of my parents were huge fans of bands like Nirvana, Oasis, Guns N’ Roses etc. Hearing them almost daily and my stepdad playing guitar around me and showing me how to play basic chords was how I developed an early interest in music. What was cool about my stepdad was the fact he kept up with new music. A turning point for me was him showing me bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Korn. I then started to dive deeper into metal. I made various bands with friends growing up and SAVE US is the result of that upbringing.

The band members currently span two continents. Please share with us the origins of the band and how you got together.

This is always a fun question to answer. Chris and Benji were on the hunt for a vocalist for this new project. The obvious thing at first was to audition singers in the area but unfortunately, while some amazing singers auditioned, it always felt like something was missing. So, one night Chris was scrolling through TikTok and came across Miguel’s profile. He was instantly pulled in by his vocal abilities but realized he was from California. Chris took his shot In reaching out, and surprisingly Miguel came in with a fire ready to do whatever it took to make the band work. We worked hard putting this E.P. together everything was done remotely and fortunately Miguel had all the equipment and knowledge to be able to record himself at home, and the rest of us had all the tools and resources we needed to record ourselves as well. What showed us that this band could work out despite the distance is when Miguel landed in the U.K. for the first time.

Your release of ‘Distance’ has garnered much attention from critics and audiences alike. Please tell us more about the record’s origins, the video, and its production.

Distance was the song on the record where we felt we had a clearer direction of where we wanted to take our music going forward …  We had spent some time trialing different sounds, keys, vocal deliveries etc.. The song Is is about trying to repair a toxic relationship and this video shows Amy laying in dirty water the scenery is a painted picture of this toxic relationship.

Please tell us more about what’s in the pipeline, and what audiences can expect from you over the coming year

There is lots of music to come, and we are part way through releasing songs from our debut EP ‘LUCID’. We are actively writing new material all of the time pushing new directions, so expect to hear a variety of different styles from us. We are always trying to push the boundaries, and ourselves to get out of our comfort zones. As far as collaborations go, we are definitely open to it. There hasn’t been too much discussion on the topic, but it’s definitely something we would be keen on.
