Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Ant Thomaz is a rare musical storyteller whose roots stretch from the lush Bayou of southern Louisiana to the vibrant streets of Scotland. Drawing from his Scottish, Irish, and Coushatta Indian heritage, Thomaz’s music is an eclectic tapestry—blending folk, soul, pop, zydeco, and rock, all threaded together by a deep sense of cultural pride and personal history.
A self-taught musician who began composing at just twelve, Thomaz has long been celebrated for his ability to fuse languages and traditions. His songs are marked by rich storytelling and sung in Scottish Gaelic, Cajun French, and English, creating an immersive sonic world that feels both intimate and expansive.

His latest single, “Believe,” stands as a testament to resilience and hope. Inspired by his daughter, Gaia, the track is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt underestimated. “Believe” is rooted in personal experience, drawing on Gaia’s unwavering positivity and her refusal to be defined by others’ limitations. “I witnessed her developing trust in her own resilience,” Thomaz shares. “There was no plan to make it a song, but after sharing the words and emotions with my friend Chris in the studio, it naturally evolved into ‘Believe.’”
Originally conceived as meditations and stories exchanged between father and daughter, “Believe” is a powerful reminder that the doubts of others do not dictate our potential. The song’s recurring affirmation—“starting to believe”—anchors its message of letting go of pain, embracing hope, and moving forward. Vivid imagery of bright lights and vibrant nights reflects the excitement of rediscovering joy, while themes of camaraderie and emotional support run throughout.

Thomaz’s journey began as a busker on Glasgow’s streets, where his dynamic performances quickly caught the city’s attention. He went on to form the funk-driven band DOPESICKFLY, gracing major stages across Scotland and Northern England, including Belladrum and Eden festivals. The band has supported musical legends such as Roy Ayers, Kool & The Gang, The Wailers, and Shaun Ryder’s Black Grape. Their track “We Are One,” featuring BAFTA-winning actor and singer Karen Dunbar, was named Song of the Week on BBC’s Afternoon Show, BBC 6, and The Kaye Adams Programme.
In 2023, Thomaz released his debut solo EP 520 to critical acclaim from outlets like The Skinny, The List, and The Scotsman. His single “Magpies” received airplay on BBC platforms, including BBC6 Music with Tom Robinson. As a solo artist, he’s supported acts like Happy Mondays and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, and appeared at renowned festivals such as Celtic Connections, Belladrum, and the Edinburgh Fringe. He has also headlined sold-out shows at iconic venues including O2 Academy Edinburgh and SWG3 Glasgow.
