This is an ode to consumerism, travel, and the strange headspace that comes from teetering on the edge of burnout before finding a second wind south of the border.

The track’s video, shot on gloriously nostalgic Super 8, leans fully into the concept. Band members roam the aisles, causing low-key chaos among the groceries until they’re inevitably kicked out, proving that new life—and a good hook—can still be found on aisle five. The grainy visuals and playful mischief mirror the song’s wiry guitars and nervy, post-punk energy.

Paired with “Running,” the single is available as a 7″ vinyl and a two-track digital release via Little Cloud Records. It marks the first in a planned series of similar releases from Rayon, hinting at a steady stream of sharp, tightly crafted songs on the horizon.

Rayon is the project of long-time North Portland resident and Detroit-area native Eric Sabatino, now expanded into a full band featuring members of Sun Atoms, Yuvees, Pastilla, and Martha Stax: Anna Sabatino, Riley McLaughlin, Eric Rubalcava, and Derek Longoria-Gomez. Together, they capture a distinctly DIY spirit, recording on rainy weekends in a garage studio crammed with old reel-to-reel tape machines, half-working tube amps, and leaky British motorcycles. The songs were tracked onto 16 channels of 1/2″ tape, then run through a slightly wonky tape echo, giving the recordings a warm, lived-in wobble that suits their offbeat charm.

For this release, Sabatino broke from his usual approach and brought in heavyweight collaborators for the final stages. The single was mixed with renowned recording engineer Larry Crane (Cat Power, Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists, The Go-Betweens, Elliott Smith, Death Cab for Cutie) at Jackpot Recording, and mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk (Yo La Tengo, Grouper, Morphine) at Stereophonic Mastering. The result is a single that feels both raw and refined—a sardonic snapshot of modern life, wrapped in hooks, humor, and a perfectly frayed post-punk edge.
