The Southbank Centre’s Spring 2026 Literature and Spoken Word Season promises to be a vibrant celebration of both established and emerging voices, marking the 75th anniversary of the iconic Festival of Britain. This year’s line-up places the next generation of writers and thinkers at the heart of its programme, offering audiences world-class cultural experiences that inspire and connect.
.
Among the highlights is an intimate evening with acclaimed singer-songwriter Emma-Lee Moss, widely known as Emmy the Great. On June 7th in the Purcell Room, Moss invites audiences into her creative journey as she launches her debut memoir, My Cantopop Nights. The event is more than just a book launch; it’s a reflection on identity, heritage, and the enduring influence of music across continents and generations.
.
Growing up in Hong Kong, Moss was captivated by the golden era of Cantopop, its stars lighting up billboards and airwaves throughout the city. When her family relocated to England in 1995, that vibrant soundtrack faded into the background, becoming a cherished but distant memory. Years later, as an adult, Moss found herself drawn back to the sounds of Cantopop—rediscovering its close harmonies and stadium-rock guitars, and reconnecting with the person she once was.
.
My Cantopop Nights is a story of nostalgia, self-discovery, and the powerful role that music plays in shaping our sense of self. The evening at the Southbank Centre will also feature a special musical performance, offering a rare chance to experience Moss’s artistry in both words and song. It’s a fitting tribute to the season’s spirit: honouring the past, celebrating the present, and inspiring the future of creative expression.
