ZOE - movie
From the creative partnership of Emanuela Galliussi (Fourplay, Baciami Ancora, Una Talpa Al Bioparco)—who makes her debut as both writer, director, and lead actor—and Dean Ronalds (Fourplay, #Screamers, Meet The Browns), co-director and producer, comes “ZOE,” a whimsical and heartfelt feature film set to make its New York debut.
.
“ZOE” tells the story of an Italian woman who seemingly has everything she needs for happiness, yet feels unfulfilled. During Mardi Gras, a chance encounter with a young boy dressed as a wizard grants her a magical wish: three opportunities to live the life she’s always longed for. If she fails, she risks being stuck with the little wizard forever. Over the course of three transformative days, Zoe finds herself immersed in new lives across Ibiza, London, and Paris—each with its own adventures, romances, and revelations. Though she doesn’t find exactly what she set out for, Zoe’s journey leads her to something far richer: a reconnection with her inner child and a new balance between body, mind, and spirit. Returning home, she realizes the wizard’s magic was far more profound than she ever imagined, freeing her to begin a new chapter—perhaps with the wizard always by her side.

.
The origins of “ZOE” are as heartfelt as its story. Dean and Emanuela’s creative journey began when they fell in love on set in Africa—Dean directing and producing, Emanuela starring. Their artistic partnership grew out of their personal bond, evolving naturally as they navigated life’s milestones together.
.
The pandemic halted their previous project and, like many, forced them to pause and reflect. Relocating to Italy, they found inspiration in both the challenges and hopes of a changing world. Their experiences with immigration, the search for compassion, and the universal longing for truth and love deeply informed the film’s spirit. “ZOE” emerged as a lighthearted, uplifting tale designed to awaken the inner child, inspire hope, and celebrate the magic in everyday journeys. Stylistically, the film channels the charm of “Big” and “Eat Pray Love,” with influences from directors like Noah Baumbach, Greta Gerwig, Steven Soderbergh, Alejandro Iñárritu, and Cédric Klapisch.
