Alexandra King
Irish-American singer-songwriter Alexandra King is toasting the spirit of the pub on her new single, “Bottoms Up.” Co-written with Evan Sieling, the track arrives with the easy confidence of a classic drinking song — the kind built for a roomful of voices, a few friendly strangers, and a chorus that feels like it’s always existed.
.
“Bottoms Up” leans into the warmth and storytelling traditions that shaped King’s upbringing, capturing that particular kind of magic only a good pub can hold: music in the air, laughter at the tables, conversation flowing as freely as the pints. A chorus of crowd voices brings the atmosphere to life, turning the song into a shared moment rather than a solo performance.
.
Musically, King and Sieling keep the energy high and the textures rooted in tradition. The track features fiddle from Oliver Bates Craven (Sierra Ferrell), alongside mandolin, tenor guitar, acoustic guitar, and the steady pulse of bodhrán percussion. King and Sieling also add background vocals, with an extra wink of personality thanks to a playful cameo from Pillsbury the dog — a small detail that makes the whole scene feel even more lived-in.
.
Driven by a foot-stomping rhythm and a timeless, sing-along-ready hook, “Bottoms Up” is ultimately a celebration of community — the kind you find in the corners of familiar rooms, where the stories are always better because they’re told together. King says the song was written with pure joy in mind: “’ Bottoms Up’ is pure fun. I wanted to write a classic drinking song that feels timeless, like it could’ve been sung decades ago or written last week. It’s a love letter to the Irish pub, whether it be in New York or Ireland itself: the dog in the corner, the turf fire burning, and the cold pint in your hand.”
.
For King, that love letter is personal. “For me, the pub is at the heart of my Irish-American culture,” she adds. “It’s not just about a great pint — it’s about the craic, the conversation, the music, the food, and the comfort of walking into a place where you’re never alone.”
That connection to heritage runs deep throughout her work. Born into a musical family, King first stepped onstage at just three years old. She later found a natural home for her raw, heartfelt songwriting in pubs across New York and Ireland — spaces where songs aren’t just performed, they’re exchanged.
.
Summers spent in Counties Leitrim and Westmeath further strengthened her relationship with Irish music and storytelling, traditions that continue to echo through her writing today. With “Bottoms Up,” King doesn’t just nod to the culture — she invites you into it, one chorus at a time.
