THE ELEM steps into a bold new chapter with “Could It Be Me?” — a genre-blurring rock anthem that pulls faith, paranoia, and self-importance into the same orbit, then asks what really separates them. Formed in Portugal in 2025 by songwriter and producer M.L. Leichter, THE ELEM operates without borders, collaborating remotely with a rotating cast of musicians to create music that feels intimate in its confession and expansive in its scale. This single is the clearest statement yet of that vision.

Set against the surreal backdrop of a countryside rave, the song follows a narrator suspended between reality and delusion — caught in the strange comfort of believing you’ve been chosen. Leichter’s central question lands like a dare: could it be me… the one selected from us all? The track never fully settles whether that conviction is devotion, distortion, or something more unsettling in-between.

The concept took root during Leichter’s travels through India, where rave parties in Goa left a lasting imprint. In searching for a definition of belief, he found an uncomfortable overlap: paranoia is the sense that unseen forces connect everything; faith can offer a similar structure, reframing control as divine order rather than threat. Self-importance completes the triangle — the quiet certainty that the world ultimately revolves around you. “Could It Be Me?” moves through all three, then undercuts them with a final note of logic that feels like a wink none of those mindsets would welcome.

Musically, it’s built for repeat listens, constantly introducing new melodic turns and textures rather than leaning on easy repetition. The track’s organic, unified sonic character is shaped by Mike Fraser, bringing cohesion to its shifting, high-voltage arrangement.

“Could It Be Me?” arrives as the lead single from THE ELEM’s upcoming EP Perhaps, It’s Me, due 16 November, with “Crying Now” set to follow.
