Officially formed in 2014, the Los Angeles trio Night Talks are three life-long friends: Soraya Sebghati (vocals), Jacob Butler (guitar, synth, vocals), and Josh Arteaga (bass, synth, vocals). Since their debut record Same Time Tomorrow landed in February 2022 — a release that helped propel them toward a sold-out show at the legendary Troubadour — Night Talks have continued to sharpen their ability to turn modern anxieties into something you can dance to.
Now, they return with “Window Shopping,” an upbeat, electric groove that doesn’t shy away from the messy interior world behind the shine. Built on sparkling melodies, crisp vocals, and a thumping bassline that locks you in from the first moment, the track spins insecurities, self-doubt, and comparison into a dynamic jam — the kind that feels bright on the surface, but hits hardest when you catch the lyrics in the right light.
At its core, “Window Shopping” captures that universal, roller coaster-like question: what does success actually look like — and how do you know if you’re on the right path? It’s the sound of measuring your progress against someone else’s highlight reel, of watching peers surge ahead and wondering whether your own wins still count.
Lead vocalist Soraya Sebghati puts it plainly, framing the song as a confrontation with impostor syndrome and the quiet toll of comparison. “‘Window Shopping’ is about impostor syndrome and the price of comparison,” she shares. “When you reach a point in your career where your friends are surpassing you and you feel left behind, you start to feel small in your own accomplishments, wondering if you really belong or if you’ll ever make it.”
For this release, Night Talks reunite with frequent collaborator Eric Palmquist (Bad Suns, Tate McRae, half•alive), whose production touch helps the song land with clarity and punch. But like many great tracks, it didn’t arrive fully formed — it evolved over time, waiting for the right emotional center to click into place.
Jacob Butler describes the track’s long gestation as a process of discovery: “We had the skeleton of this song sitting around for a while, with just the triplet guitar rhythm and a drum beat,” he explains. “It wasn’t until pretty late in the process that we figured out what the song should be about, and came up with that bassline which really brought the whole song to life and made it groove.”
And that groove is the key — the moment the song stops being a sketch and becomes a statement. “Window Shopping” is Night Talks doing what they do best: translating the private, unspoken parts of ambition into sound you can feel in your chest, then handing it back to you as something you can move through.
