Alexandr Misko builds machines out of wood and steel string, then plays them as if nothing else exists. This fall, the Germany-based guitarist, composer, and arranger is taking his self-designed Frankenstein Guitar on a sprawling North American tour, bringing the sound of his latest album, Final Boss, to listening rooms and concert halls across the United States and Canada.
Misko’s work sits at the crossroads of melody, percussion, and invention. He began playing classical guitar at twelve, before discovering modern fingerstyle online and shaping his technique independently. Over time, that curiosity evolved into the Frankenstein Guitar—an instrument modified to expand what one player can do, allowing him to tap, strike, and detune mid-performance. The result is a sound that often feels closer to a full band than a solo set.
That approach helped propel his early tapping compositions past a million views, while his arrangements of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” have since reached tens of millions of listeners worldwide.
Recognition has followed well beyond the fingerstyle community. MusicRadar named Misko Guitarist of the Year in 2018, and in 2020 he performed at Carnegie Hall alongside harpist Alexander Boldachev—sparking an ongoing collaboration between guitar and harp. His path has also intersected with composer Hans Zimmer, a connection that reflects the cinematic instincts running through Misko’s own writing.
The upcoming tour places that full catalogue on display, moving from intimate rooms like Club Passim in Cambridge and The Spot on Kirk in Roanoke to landmark stages including The Cutting Room in New York, Swallow Hill Music in Denver, and a headline appearance at the Woodstock Fingerstyle Guitar Festival. Demand has already added a second show in Port Moody at the Inlet Theatre, back-to-back sets at Saskatoon’s The Capitol Music Club, and two additional performances in Seattle.
