Careers can produce a wide variety of interesting stories, it’s one of the reasons why parents have those “how was your day” conversations over dinner. Night Job is a movie that takes a seemingly ordinary job by turning it into an extraordinarily crazy story that just keeps getting wilder and more absurd as the night goes on. The story follows a doorman starting a night shift for the first time. During his shift, the craziest of tenants and people start rolling in; making things more complicated and a hell of a lot more nutty as he struggles just to make it through shift’s end. Our lead is a likable, decent everyday kind of average guy who we can feel for and have all had (at one point) bad experiences on getting our heads wrapped around our first day of a new job.

Still from “Night Job.”

The endless wave of nutballs and tenants make for some unusual results. Everyone from arguing couples, rude passersby, to even a priest claiming he’s going to perform an exorcist which may or may not have turned into some kind of crazed sex party. It’s funny and it certainly keeps things predictably unpredictable. The revolving door of random visitors makes time fly and makes the film progress rather smoothly. However, the movie’s biggest gag is also its biggest thorn in its own side. Sometimes it just feels like the movie is just trying to outdo itself by making the next visitor weirder or more difficult than the last. It’s as if the film has to outdo itself and pushes plausibility of who or what you’ll see next; sort of a double-edged sword.

Overall, Night Job does an above average job of keeping your attention and interest firmly cemented in its amusingly wacky story and should be given a watch/chance if you got the time.

Movie Rating: 3 stars.
