Ashley Buck, the founder of ADB Publicity, has worked exclusively in the public relations industry for over a decade. Ashley’s intense passion for entertainment has propelled her to success as a publicist, having worked on a multitude of accounts in the arts and entertainment industries. We had the pleasure of speaking to her about her company, the industry and the importance of a good PR strategy.

Hi, Ashley! How did you become a PR professional/publicist in the entertainment industry?

I’ve always had a love for a story. I actually went to College for Radio and Television Broadcasting with a specialty in TV reporting, and through that, I actually found a deep love for media relations and for the way PR professionals told stories. I ended up going back to school for Arts and Cultural Management specifically to learn about PR and Marketing for the arts and entertainment industry. After graduation I ended up at an amazing PR firm in Edmonton, Alberta called Bottom Line Productions Inc and stayed there for almost four years. That was the beginning of my publicity career.

For those considering having one, how important would you say having a publicist is?

Having a publicist, I believe, is vital. A publicist is there not only to guide you in the right direction for a client’s image and brand, but they are there to be the spokesperson for the client, to secure media coverage and event appearances, and to teach them how to present that image in public.

What have been your career highlights to date and why?

I’m so lucky to be able to do what I do for a living. But I mostly love working with all of my clients. They all amaze me with their work ethic and passion for their craft. Every day is a highlight. But I do have to say attending the premiere of Ford v Ferrari in Hollywood this past November with my client Sean Carrigan was certainly an amazing moment.

Please provide a summary of the services you provide to the entertainment sector?

ADB Publicity is a boutique-style firm that provides a range of client services vital to the entertainment sector, including, but not limited to; strategic media relations, media training, and support, media monitoring and analytics, creative photoshoot logistics and organization, red carpet coordination and navigation, social media management, and brand sponsorship.

Have you or would you consider expanding your portfolio to represent other creative professionals?

It’s a thought for the future, but at this time I’m just focusing on working with those in the film and television industries as that’s where my expertise is. But I’ll never say never.

You’re in a very competitive industry. What are the operational challenges companies like yours face?

I can’t really speak for the industry as a whole, but what I’m personally finding is that with so much content being put out into the market and numerous talent out there needing and wanting publicity, it can be tough to get a client prioritized or even chosen for an interview. But that’s the nature of the job, and I’m here to make sure my clients get coverage and seen at events.

So where can we keep up to date with your activities?
