Thank you for granting the interview, Jackson! You’re one of the leads in the movie “Transcend.”  Tell us about the character Max.

Max is a kind and curious boy who loves to play video games and shoot hoops with his friends.  However, Max is also a teenager about to come into the ability to see Good and Evil, or Angels and Demons.  He doesn’t know it, but its an ability everyone in his family gets. He is also about to meet a sister that he never knew he had. That sister doesn’t have her body but she’s not exactly a ghost.  That’s when Max realizes that the world isn’t all that it seems and there are dangers that not everyone can see.

The film has that classic horror feel. Did you do any research to play your character?

I did research protagonists that might be similar to the ones that Max would experience, however, this character is similar to me in many ways (outside of seeing monsters) 🙂 Therefore it wasn’t as much about research as it was character development and the relationships that Max has to the other characters in the in series. I would say this has a “Stranger Things” feel to it versus a true horror experience.

What can the audience expect?

I think the audience will feel like they know Max personally and want to follow along as he fully develops his gift. There are a lot of cool effects and action scenes as the series progresses, as well as a heartwarming storyline about two siblings coming together and trying to defeat the darkness in the world.

What has inspired you to act?

I think I have always wanted to act, starting at the age of 5 when I first got on stage at a talent show.  I have always loved performing and starting on stage really gave me a lot of confidence.  I think the one person that has inspired me is my mom. She has been on this journey with me since day one.  I don’t think I would be in this position now without her support and I am very grateful for that.

Is there a role you want to play?

There are so many, BUT if I have to narrow it down… I really would like to play a comic book character in a movie or TV show.  It just looks so cool and fun to play a character that people know so well. When you have the opportunity as an actor to bring someone’s favorite superhero to life that is a double blessing.  But you have to nail it…. so there is some pressure to that also.  I am definitely up to the challenge.

What has been your fondest memory of working in the industry?

I have had two, but because they are totally different experiences.  My fondest film memory was the opportunity to work opposite “The Rock” Duane Johnson in “Baywatch” 2017.  It doesn’t get much better as my first role in a studio feature film to work with one of the top actors in the industry.  My fondest memory in television was being cast as “Hennessey” in ABC’s Fresh off the Boat. It was my first time on a television set and the cast and crew were amazing.  I learned so much with that experience.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

Anything you dream of achieving can come true if you just work hard and stay humble.  There will be highs and lows but just remember to stay on your path…it will always work out in the end.

It’s actually not a TV movie but a whole series.  We are working on finishing the pilot and getting it to distribution.
