We had the awesome opportunity to interview actor Roman Christou. Check out the interview below.
Hi, Roman! Thank you for granting the interview. Congrats on your feature film debut as Chris in the upcoming Warner Brothers horror film, The Curse of La Llorona. It will be in theaters April 19th. What should the audience expect to see?
The audience should expect lots of suspense. The movie is set in the ’70s which sets the tone for an older vibe to it. It’s a scary movie, so I hope the audience will jump out of their seats!
Tell us about Chris. Who is he? What is his personality like?
Chris is known as, a very protective older brother and son. He puts his family’s safety before his own. Since there is no father in the home, he feels the responsibility to be the male figure in the family.
What role does Chris play in the film?
He plays the son to Linda Cardellini and the brother to Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen. He feels entitled to protect his younger sister. Which allows his mom and the curandur to deal with La Llorona.
Was it a challenge to play Chris? Did you have to do any special training?
There was no special training but, a lot of safety instructions given on set. Some were challenging because there was so a lot going on during the scene. It was technical which also made it more fun and exciting!
How did you audition for the role?
The audition and callback were in LA. I believe I got the part because I screamed the loudest when asked. There was lots of movement during the scene, I spent a majority of my time understanding the role so I could be in the moment. My main focus was to not over-act but to be subtle.
The subject matter of the film is chilling. How does this production bring something new to a supernatural film?
The story of the Weeping Woman has been around in the Latino culture for a while. Introducing it to this generation is a pretty big deal. Parents now have the ability to scare their kids to come home before dark, using this story as the source.
What is going to surprise people about Chris?
Chris proves himself to be brace, playing the role the protect his family from La Lorna.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue from the film and why?
Some of my favorite lines are Raymond Cruz’s lines! He’s serious in the movie yet there is a lot of subtle humor.
When looking back on the production, what resonated with you the most and why?
This being my first movie, everything was new to me. I learned so much and surprised by how many people it takes to create. I also learned about myself and grew as an actor. My biggest take away was learning set courtesy.
In your opinion, what scene in the film is going to blow people away and why?
The car scene and leading up to it. You’ll just have to watch it see!
What do you enjoy most about your character and role?
As the younger brother in my household, it was a great experience playing the role of the older sibling and protector.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about the film?
It’s a suspenseful movie. That will leave everyone at the edge of their seats.
What inspired you to become an actor?
My brother, I observed him as he worked on scripts. I gave it a shot, it looked so fun!
Who are your biggest influences in the industry and why?
My influence is my older brother. He’s 3 1/2 years older than me. Played the lead in two Independent feature films at the age of 10. I was inspired by his work ethic and it motivated me.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about your career?
At the age of 12. I’m interested in sports, music, and hanging out with friends (oh and Fortnite). Acting is a privilege. I hope everyone enjoys the movie because I really enjoyed filming it and love the story.
