We had the awesome opportunity to interview Tony Head. It was wonderful. Check out the interview below.
Hi, Tony! Thank you for granting the interview. Congrats on your role in Amazon Prime’s Original Series, Asunder The Series. What should the audience expect to see?
Asunder is very much like the older popular prime time soap operas like DALLAS, FALCONCREST, and FLAMINGO ROAD. Families with power and the thirst for more power and influence fighting for domination in the most exciting city in the world (New York). Shocking secrets will be revealed, careers will be compromised and illicit affairs will be had. In short, there will be lots of excitement over the next three episodes.
Tell us about your character, Austin Blair. Who is he? What is his personality like?
Austin is a determined and fierce businessman who gets what he wants. He’s determined to destroy the Chandler empire and pulls no punches to do so. He has a very volatile temper but can turn on the charm at the drop of a hat. Nothing ever came easy to him, hence the massive chip on his shoulder. He came from the street and cleaned himself up. Now he sits on top of a multi-million dollar cosmetic company and he’s not going to let anyone take it from him.
What role does Austin play in the series?
As the head of Blair Industries Austin runs the company with an iron fist. His objective is to dominate the industry and if he can minimize the market share of Chandler Enterprises. He’s married to Dionne his long-time wife but used to date Adele Chandler the wife of Thomas Chandler in high school and CEO of Chandler Enterprises. Austin has lots of skeletons in the closet, but he knows the secrets of many other characters and won’t hesitate to leverage that information to his advantage.
Was it a challenge to play Austin?
Austin is a fun character to play because he’s got so much going on in is head. He’s always got an ax to grind but he can suppress it and turn on the charm to get what he wants. In every character, I play there’s some of me. Some more than others. Austin has some characteristics that I’ve worked to eliminate in my life so in a way it’s interesting for me to experience them through Austin and not have to deal with the consequences.
How did you get the role?
Landra Phillips decided early on that she wanted to get some veteran actors in the mix for this project. She contacted my Legit Agent in Los Angeles and we made it happen.
The subject matter of the series is true-to-life. Did you do any research to play your role?
I do research on all my roles. In this case, I looked into the cosmetic industry history in NY as well as some of the controversies that surrounded the issue of espionage with respect to the formulas used for perfumes and colognes. I look into many different areas when I do research. Every character is different.
What is going to surprise people about Austin?
As tough as he is he will share a softer more humane side at some point.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue and why?
“I’m the one whose kept this company afloat, even when we’ve been up to our ass in hot water”. Austin feels he’s always under siege and he’s the only one who can save the company.
When looking back on the production, what resonates with you the most and why?
Landra Phillips brought a great group of people together to take this journey with her through the Digital soap world. I’ve met so many interesting people, Lauren B. Martin, Robert G. McKay, Kim Brockington, and so many others. It’s really been an interesting journey.
In your opinion, what scene in the series is going to blow people away and why?
Unfortunately, I can’t give that away just yet. Watch the show!
What do you enjoy most about your character and role?
Anytime I can get away with just about anything I want to, it makes life interesting. I can’t do that in real life. Austin is a complex, colorful character with a lot going on and as an actor, you can’t ask for more than that.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about the series?
Just stay tuned for updates as to when season two will debut.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about your career?
I have several things in the mix: I have a role in the new “JOKER” feature film starring Joaquin Phoenix, A recurring role on “The DEUCE” on HBO, A featured role in the upcoming comedy feature film “Lazy Susan” starring Allison Janney, A featured role in the feature film “Strive” starring Danny Glover ,a recurring guest star role in the Emmy nominated series “Bronx SIU” and I just booked a role in a feature film produced by Chris Noth but can’t say anything more than that at the moment.
