Some of the most famous women in the world have freckles, such as Lucy Liu, Demi Lovato, and Sade, to name a few. When you have freckles skin nourishment is essential. You must take special care of your skin because it can suffer severe damage when exposed to the sun.

Freckled WomanFreckles come in a variety of hues and colors due to the person’s skin tone. Did you know many light-skinned people have freckles? It’s due to the lack of melanin in their system. Melanin is a chemical made by melanocytes, which determines how dark your skin is and it protects you from harmful ultraviolet light. This doesn’t mean people with darker skin don’t need to be concerned about sun damage. All skin types are susceptible and should use the appropriate sunscreen when in the sun.

Our bodies need sunshine to create natural vitamin D. You only need 15-minutes in the sun to have a healthy dose. When you go beyond 15-minutes, you risk sun damage. This causes your skin to wrinkles, dryness, a blotchy color, and skin cancer. Sun exposure produces more melanin, which darkens the skin. Some people call it a suntan. They’re unaware that this exposure poses a health risk.

You can also receive damage to your skin during the winter months. You must apply a sunscreen with a rating of SPF 20 or 30 before you go outside. Make sure your sunscreen protects you from UVA and UVB radiation and is water resistant. Even your lips should have sunscreen. An SPF-protective lip balm should suffice. Sunglasses and oversized hats are great protectants, too. Remember to wear loose-fitting clothing that covers your arms and shoulders.

How do you care for freckled skin? A good moisturizer lotion will reduce dryness. Many moisturizers have sunscreen to protect your skin. Serums with antioxidants applied after you remove the sunscreen will minimize any sun damage. Some serums contain retinol that is made to nourish your skin. They increase the thickness of the dermis to reduce wrinkles and sun damage.

As you mature, your skin changes. It needs extra attention. Always be mindful of any skin discolorations. This could be a sign of skin cancer. Harmless spots could be something serious. Don’t hesitate to contact your dermatologist to have it checked out. If they’re only spots from aging skin, you should consider using skin care products that contain Mandelic acid. Mandelic acids concentrate on halting the melanin from producing blotches.

Proper skin care starts when you’re young. Before you start your skin care routine, visit your dermatologist to determine what you should purchase that is safe and effective for your skin type. If you have a son or daughter, teach them how to be kind to their skin. It pays off when they mature. Besides, you’re never too young for excellent skin care.
