British cinema is about to land a powerful punch as Blackwater Pictures, the market-savvy production house known for high-concept originals, gears up for the world premiere of its latest feature, Heavyweight. Set to open the 33rd Raindance Film Festival on June 18th, this tense boxing drama is already generating serious buzz among cinephiles and industry insiders alike.

Blackwater Pictures has made its name by championing British stories with global resonance, working both independently and as co-producers on ambitious projects with UK and international partners. Their latest venture, Heavyweight, is no exception—delivering a gritty, authentic look at the world of elite boxing that transcends borders.

Directed by Christopher M. Anthony in his feature debut, Heavyweight boasts a stellar cast led by Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter series, White Lotus), Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy, Marcella, For Life), and Jordan Bolger (Peaky Blinders, The Woman King). The film follows ‘Diamond’ Derek Douglas (Bolger), a wildcard boxing contender grappling with self-doubt as he prepares for the fight of his life. With the clock ticking and the pressure mounting, the stakes are raised by a series of dirty tricks and explosive revelations, all unfolding in real time.

More than just a sports drama, Heavyweight offers an intense, visceral dive into the psychological and emotional battlegrounds of elite sport—shedding light on the hidden struggles that unfold behind the glitz and glamour of the ring. The film’s heavyweight production team includes Kevin Harvey, Antoine Dixon Bellot, and BAFTA-nominated Tiernan Hanby, ensuring a knockout pedigree both in front of and behind the camera.

Rounding out the cast are Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil: Retribution), Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners), and Joplin Sibtain (Andor), adding further depth and star power to this unmissable premiere.

With its world premiere at Raindance, Heavyweight signals a major moment for British independent film—one that promises to leave audiences breathless and inspired.

Raindance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the UK. Holding the 33rd festival in 2025, Raindance is based in the heart of London’s buzzing West End film district. Raindance Film Festival is officially recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences USA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and the British Independent Film Awards. Selected shorts will qualify for Oscar® and BAFTA considerations.

Heavyweight premieres as the opening feature of the 33rd Raindance Film Festival on June 18th. Don’t miss your ringside seat for one of the year’s most anticipated cinematic events.
