School Girls by Artist Christopher Cumberbatch

From March 5–9, 2025, the Caribbean Fine Art Fair (CaFA Fair) celebrates its 15th edition in the vibrant setting of Barbados. Held at the dynamic and newly established Pelican House, the fair is beautifully framed by the historic charm of Pelican Village Craft Center in the heart of Bridgetown. This year’s event proudly showcases the exceptional talent of artists across the Caribbean and its diaspora, promising an inspiring and unforgettable experience. Featured artists include Christopher Cumberbatch.

Christopher Cumberbatch is an acclaimed artist who graduated from Art and Design High School and Parsons School of Design. He has been an active member of the Local 829 Scenic Artist Union for over 20 years and has developed a successful decorative paint company. Currently, Chris serves as the Charge Scenic Painter for the movies “The TV Glows” and “The Best Man 3.”

In 2021, he worked as a Camaraderie Scenic on Michael Che’s “Comedy Show” and “Saturday Night Live.” He also served as a Camaraderie Scenic and Scenic Artist on “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens,” worked as a Camaraderie Scenic on the Netflix production “Kevin James’ The Crew,” and was a Scenic Artist on the Fox TV show “Prodigal Son.” Chris has contributed to several notable film productions, including Tonya Lewis Lee’s “Monster,” Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X” and “Crooklyn,” and Robert De Niro’s “A Bronx Tale.”

In 2022, Chris designed the set for the National Black Theater production of “Gong Lum’s Legacy.” In 2020, he was the poster designer for the documentary film “Chicago: America’s Hidden War.” In 2017, Chris received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Black Theater Festival. He has also earned six Audelco Awards for his work, including for “Looking for Leroy” in 2019, “Harriet’s Return” in 2018, and “Black Wall Street” in 2015. Additional Audelco Awards include recognition for his work with the Nuyorican Poets Café, the presentation of “Meeting Miss Lilly,” “Julius Caesar” set in Africa, and the National Black Theater’s presentation of “The Shaneequa Chronicles,” as well as Woody King Jr.’s New Federal Theater production of “Finding Leroy.”

Chris’s fine art paintings were featured in a solo exhibition at the Skylight Gallery in Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza in 2006, as well as in exhibitions at The Poets Den Theatre and Gallery in NYC in 2009 and 2013.
