Rachel Therrien is no stranger to success. The Canadian-born trumpeter already has five critically acclaimed records under her name and has played with some of the greatest musical figures of our time including Paquito D’ Rivera, Lee Konitz, Bryan Lynch, and GRAMMY award winners Flor De Toloache. Her plethora of musical influences is equal to the diversity of artists she has worked with and it shows on her newest single Carol of the Bells which she co-arranged with guitarist, Adam Goulet.
Put into a 6/8 Afr0-Cuban feel, this gem is the perfect way to spice up things on your holiday playlist for sure! Therrien’s experience of working in the Latin jazz/ salsa music genre clearly shows here. This arrangement also has the elements of straight-ahead jazz and rock as well, making it an interesting sonoric cocktail for all listeners! Joining Therrien and Goulet on this album are Alex Bellgarde on bass, Tariq Amery on tenor saxophone, flute, and bass flute, and Michael Medrano Brindis on drums and percussion. The arrangement builds from beginning to end and puts the listener in a state of rapture. Be careful not to listen to it too close to Christmas or you might forget to open those presents, but also be sure to not miss out on this amazing single for the holidays!
