Hats (Michelle Pascal, UK, 2022) Hats is a comedy-drama about a black, British woman who explores her relationship with her ailing mother in a care home, through an assortment of hats, revealing some culturally complex emotions.
Superheroes Wear Hoodies
In March 2020, Rise 365 a black-run organization based in the Kingsmead estate in Hackney, East London, initiated a food response program to support those who had been affected most by the pandemic. Jason Osbourne directs the film.
Drop Out
21-year-old Writer/Director, Ade Femzo, actor, and founder of ACP Network, a creative platform for people to learn about the film industry firsthand. ‘Drop Out’, is a peek into the battle of words between a mother and her son, an aspiring musician.
The Art of Oppression (Patricia Francis, UK, 2021)
Three female artists are given three weeks to each create a work of art during the lockdown. The women are culturally diverse and use their art to speak of marginalization and injustice. Voice is important in this film. The director gives volume and primacy to the women’s lived experiences and to what they reveal in the process of creating their art.
Rebel Dread (William E. Bagdley, UK, 2020)
REBEL DREAD is a documentary about the legendary filmmaker, DJ, musician, and commentator, Don Letts. The film is led by Don’s archives and stories of the 70s and 80s in London, as he moved between the city’s punk and reggae scenes, earning his reputation as the ‘Rebel Dread’.
Black Exodus
Black Exodus is a visualization of what the black community looks like separated from the structure of racism. Exploring what the black community needs to do in order to achieve healing and a utopia/community strong enough to combat its internal issues. Its aim is to empower the black community and encourage them to imagine a world where they become their own standard of beauty and aspirations. Using the richness and pain of their past to engineer their futures. The film is directed by Daniel Bailey.
