EVNTYD (pronounced ‘eventide’), the musical project of Julián Berdegué, has steadily gained momentum since October 2021. The Austin, Texas-based artist set out at the beginning of the pandemic to create a body of work all by himself, eliminating the need to rely on others and ultimately creating the music he had been hearing in his head for years. With spare time on hand, the talented guitarist went on to teach himself how to play bass, drums, and piano; this dedication resulted in a body of work that can only be described as a DIY indie-rock masterpiece.
Punchy, purposeful drums, lightly growling basslines, and a wash of melancholic guitar, help define EVNTYD’s signature sound. Reminiscent of bands like DIIV, Beach Fossils, Turnover, and Day Wave, EVNTYD is churning out dream-pop-influenced tunes with the intention of allowing the listener to immerse themselves in the cinematic experience of their own life. The quality of this young artist’s work is second to none and has garnered support from historic brands like Fender and influential publications like Clout.
EVNTYD’s previous single “Thinking of You” drew ample buzz, including earning a spot on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Indie playlist, in addition to shares from Fender, MP3 Hugger, Obscure Sound, Glide Magazine, and more
EVNTYD’s latest track, “Hard On Us,” consumes with dreamy guitar trickles and lush vocals. “If you wanna see me slow down, watch me take my time,” Julián sings, his serene lead meshing melodically with guitar tones in the post-punk and dream-pop veins. “Hard on Us” is a hypnotic guitar-driven trek that represents another memorable 2022 single from EVNTYD.
Discussing the track, Julián says “I wrote “Hard On Us” to openly acknowledge that I can be a little too hard on myself and those I surround myself with. My expectations for what I and others can accomplish are sky high, and I’m well aware that that level of intensity doesn’t suit everyone. The last thing I want is for my friends to feel like they too need to have lofty aspirations in order to meet some criteria of mine.”
“One of the first drafts of this song ended up in one of my earliest videos on TikTok. Seeing people’s positive reactions and comments made me double down and flesh out the rest of the song in the week that followed.”
