Occhi Arts and Entertainment is proud to support “Artists for Action: Climate Change Awareness in the Americas,” an inspiring exhibition presented by International Communications Association Inc. and Diaspora Now Inc., in association with the Permanent Mission of Barbados to the United Nations. Hosted at the Dwyer Cultural Center in Harlem, this exhibition features paintings, photographs, prints, and videos by 12 talented Caribbean and Diaspora artists. Their work shines a spotlight on the urgent need to protect and restore our fragile ecosystems, with a special focus on the sea and oceans that are vital to the Caribbean region’s tourism and food security. The exhibition is curated by Anderson M. Pilgrim of Barbados and New York City.

Safeguarding our coastal regions is crucial for future generations to enjoy their environment. The increasing presence of sargassum seaweed on beaches has inspired creative recycling solutions, while shifting weather patterns and more intense storms threaten food security and essential infrastructure. Regional agronomists are working closely with leaders to develop strategies that ensure communities can adapt, feed their citizens, and protect valuable resources at or below sea level. These climate challenges are not limited to the Caribbean—they also impact US states like California, Florida, New York, and North Carolina, reminding us all that climate change is shaping our present and our future.
Among the participating artists, we are excited to highlight Barbadian forensic scientist, visual artist, and writer, Cher-Antoinette. A multi-faceted creative, Cher-Antoinette has earned recognition at NIFCA in photography, literary arts, and fine arts, and has published several works, including the poetic anthology “My Soul Cries,” the novel “Virtualis: A New Age Love Story,” and “Architects of Destiny: Poetry & Prose.” Her artistic journey began in earnest in 2014, as she explored various media such as watercolour, pen and ink, charcoal, acrylic, and mixed media. Recently, she has ventured into modern pointillism and hard-edge abstract art.
.
Cher-Antoinette has also gained attention for her C-Toi Wearable Art jewelry line, which brings her acrylic fluid art to a wider audience through one-of-a-kind pieces enhanced with healing crystals like amethyst, hematite, and black onyx. Her solo exhibitions include “Just Call Me Sarah” at UWI in 2017 and “The Colours of My Life” in 2018 at the OAS Marcus Garvey Gallery and the Barbados Embassy in Washington, DC. She remains an active member of Artist Alliance Barbados and Artist Studio Tours Barbados, contributing to national exhibitions and showcasing her work through studio visits and online galleries.
.
The Dwyer Cultural Center invites the public to meet the curator and artists for a panel discussion on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, on the theme “Climate Change Awareness in the Americas – Small States in the Lead.” The show runs until January 31st, 2026. A special thanks to Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., the Consulate General of Barbados in New York, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Manhattan Borough President’s Office for their invaluable support.
