Buffalo 8 shares the North American VOD release of Screwdriver, the first full-length feature from writer-director Cairo Smith.
Blindsided by divorce, thirty-three-year-old Emily leaves her adopted Nebraska behind, returning to California with nothing but a suitcase in hand. She seeks refuge in the home of an old high school friend and his pharmacologist wife. The childless couple welcomes Emily into their lives, but their hospitality soon gives way to a surreal plot of cult-like manipulation and betrayal. As days bleed together, Emily falls into a delirious tailspin, forcing her to question her faith, her sanity, and the intentions of her generous hosts.
Screwdriver was also written by Cairo Smith. The film was produced by Askari Productions and No Sudden Movies. The film made its world premiere on the festival circuit at Dances with Films in Los Angeles and went on to screen around the world at festivals, including the SOHO International Film Festival and NYC Independent Film Festival.
Cairo Smith’s debut arrives on Cable and Digital VOD today including Prime Video, Vudu, Vubiquity, Cox, and Comcast.
