Hi, Gavin! Thank you for granting the interview. Your music is amazing, and we’re excited to speak with you about your new music video “Crushin” that has over 2.6 million views. Tell us more about what inspired the song.
My new song “Crushin” is inspired by honestly just being a tween. I think it’s important to be relevant to your fan base and when you hit middle school most kids have crushes so I knew that I had to make this song. I picked Piper Rockelle for the lead although at the time I had no idea how close we’d become. She’s like my best friend now. I honestly did not anticipate 2.6 million views and still going strong. I have fans send me videos of them dancing and lip-synching to it. It’s crazy!
Tell us what inspired the creation of the video.
My mom had the idea that we would always have a story in every video. Not just the video starts and so does the music. We thought it would be cool to have a lot of visuals about telling the story from both the boy’s perspective and a girl’s.
You’re known as a songwriter. How important is it to write your own music?
I like to start writing it then get some insights from others. I always start with a beat.
Tell us about your songwriting process. How do you choose a topic to sing about?
I chose this by thinking about my fans and what’s really important at the time with them. My next song is about my struggle to where I am now.

What has been your biggest challenge as a singer?
Oh wow, probably my voice changing so much. I have to go into the studio to learn to control the ups and downs.
Your YouTube Channel is amazing. Tell us why you chose it for your platform.
Well, I started as a voice actor with puppets at like 8 years old. Now I love doing challenges and pranks. They are so much fun and my audience loves it. I chose YouTube because I knew I’d get more eyeballs on my work.
How can fans-to-be gain access to your music for downloads?
I have two songs on all platforms right now. One is “Hollaback” and one is “Crushin”.
Who are your musical icons/influences?
I have so many from Justin Bieber to Drake. I love both in different ways. As far as for acting Adam Sandler is definitely a big one I love watching him perform.
When looking back on the production of your music, what resonated with you the most and why?
I would have to say the pier scene in “Crushin” just having my pug there and Piper having hers there was so much fun. Filming on Santa Monica Pier was epic.
In your opinion, how could a singer make an impact on the world?
I really believe music has a huge impact on this world. I get so much fan mail and videos from kids around the world telling me how they wanted to give up on their dreams but then they found me on YouTube and saw my music and now believe anything is possible. I love making an impact on people more than anything and changing their world.
You’re also an actor. You’re a regular host on several series including DreamWorks TV and Nickelodeon’s Ninja Turtles: The Comeback. What do you enjoy most about acting?
I love playing someone else, that’s really cool, but improv is my favorite and hosting because I can use my own personality to hype the audience.
