We had the awesome opportunity to chat with Randy Gonzalez. Check out the interview below.
Hi, Randy! Thank you for granting the interview. Congrats on your role as Curly in the “Peppermint” movie. What should the audience expect to see?
Hi! Thanks for having me! Peppermint was a very fun and intense movie to be a part of. Audiences should expect a revenge thriller that holds nothing back. It’s Jennifer Garner kicking ass left and right and who doesn’t want to see that?
Tell us about Curly. Who is he? What is his personality like?
He is an evil character. He is a hitman for the Garcia cartel. He commits very heinous crimes and feels no remorse. Not the type of guy you ever want to run into.
What role does Curly play in the movie?
He is sent out to take out Riley North’s (Jennifer Garner’s) husband. The aftermath causes Riley North to seek revenge and take out everyone involved in the death of her husband.
Was it a challenge to play Curly? Did you have to pull from experience or conduct any research?
He is a very dark and evil character. He commits a terrible crime and then laughs about it. Playing a human that evil poses challenges but at the same time playing a villain is always fun. If you have the audience hating you that means you are doing a good job. I have watched a lot of gritty crime films so I had some reference on how to play this character.
How did you get the role?
I went into the audition and Pierre Morrel the director was in the room. He directed the film “Taken”, which has become an iconic action film, so I already knew he could handle making the action look great on this project. A few days after my audition I got a call that I booked the role. Then he helped with shaping the character as far as choosing the wardrobe I would wear and what tattoos I would have.
The subject matter of the movie is intense. How does the movie production bring something new to the story?
It’s a female-driven revenge movie. This is “Death Wish” meets “Taken” with a female lead. It’s a very straightforward and visceral film and audiences are enjoying it.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue and why?
“Watching someone take everything from you. It turns you into somebody else” is said in the film and I think that just embodies Riley North’s character.
In your opinion, what scene in the movie is going to blow people away and why?
There is a scene in a piñata shop that I love. It’s balls to the walls action and its gritty and violent and I think it’ll take people for a ride.
What other projects do you have coming up?
I have a role on a new OWN series called “David Makes Man” created by Oscar-winning writer Tarrell Alvin McCraney and executive produced by Michael B. Jordan. I can’t wait for people to see that one. Thanks for having me on here, if people want to keep up with me on social media they can check me out at Randy_G on IG and RandyGRandyG on Twitter.
