We had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Kate about her career and upcoming projects. Check it out below.

Hi, Kate! Thank you for granting the interview. You’re an acting sensation! Your career is soaring and we’re excited to speak with you about. You’re best known for your role as Hannah Stuck in the Middle! What do you enjoy most about playing Hannah?

I think Hannah is a fun character to play.  She is very competitive in a totally “girl power” sort of way.  She is pretty and dresses well but she isn’t afraid to be better than the boys at something that boys are considered “superior” at like sports.

Kate TomlinsonWhat inspired you to become an actress?

Like most kids, I loved to “dress-up” and “play pretend.”  Lots of kids grow out of that but I never did.  I love pretending.  I love being creative.  I think my childhood sparked my aspirations.  My cousin was also an aspiring actress.  I thought she was the coolest person in the world (still do).  She got me thinking about film acting and then it just kind of snowballed from there.  I lived in a very small town in Wyoming so I truthfully never thought this would happen to me but I am so beyond thankful that it did. I get to live my dream every day.

Let’s talk about the importance of branding yourself. What advice can you share with aspiring talent?

I think it is so important to portray a positive image.  As actors and public figures, we are so blessed to have a platform to reach and influence others.  I believe it is our responsibility to make sure we are using that power for good.  I want to be a positive role model.  I want kids, especially girls, to see that they can be smart, pretty, and kind and still make it in Hollywood.  I want my brand to be that it isn’t a success at all cost; how you treat people matters!

What has been your biggest challenge in the industry?

I love this industry but it has its flaws and hardships.  You get rejected a lot.  I have gotten used to that now but it still hurts.  You get so close and work so hard just to hear the word “NO”.  You have to develop a very thick skin and try not to take it personally.  Also, I think as young artists we are taught that social media is one of the biggest factors in booking roles (Sad but true).  It shouldn’t be that way but people need to watch the show and if you have followers they will.  There are many awesome things about social media but it also makes it hard to see the real person.

Is there a role you would love to play?

Oh, there are so many roles I want to play.  I want to

play a strong female character who is pretty, smart, and kind.  Stereotypes annoy me.  If you’re pretty, you are often stereotyped as mean or dumb.  I’d also like to play a disturbed character like a serial killer.  I think it would be so fun to play someone totally outside of the social norms.

Tell us about your career objectives. Where would you like to be professionally in five years?

I’d love to have my own show.  I’d especially like to be in a musical TV show or movie.  I love to sing so that would be the best of both worlds.  I’d love to be in a position that I could make a difference and be a positive role model in this industry.

Kate TomlinsonYou also love to sing. Have you recorded any music?

Well, I record covers a lot.  I am currently writing some of my own songs but I haven’t recorded them.  Most of my songs are about my heartbreaks.  Writing and singing really help me sort through my feelings.  I am going for an R&B/pop mix sort of vibe.

If you could be any superhero what would you be and what would be your super power?

I am going to create my own superhero.  My superhero has the power to teleport, read minds, and use telekinesis.  I think it would be so cool to teleport to Paris for the night or Hawaii for the day.  I would also like to read minds.  Then I would know what the casting directors were thinking so I could nail every audition.  Also, telekinesis would be so fun.  I would love to be able to move objects with my mind.

Who have been your biggest influences?

Audrey Hepburn!!!! I love her!  She was so talented, absolutely stunning, and wise.  I also love Ariana Grande.  She influences me a whole lot musically.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose this career? Would you do anything differently?

Absolutely!  This career has made me smile, and laugh, and cry.  It is a rollercoaster.  I love it every day of my life but I don’t like it sometimes.  But, out of everything, I would choose this career every day.  There is this feeling I get when something good happens in my career that I can’t get anywhere else.  You feel in it your stomach and you never want it to go away.  It is addictive.  Also, how cool is this career path? I mean, one day I will have the power to influence more people than I could ever dream of.  How could you pass on that?

Do you have anything else you would like to share about your career?

I am currently back auditioning but I am positive something exciting is on my horizon.
