We had the amazing opportunity to speak with actress Sarah Abbott about her role in Mommy’s Little Princess. Check out the interview below.
Hi, Sarah! Thank you for granting the interview. Congrats on your role in Mommy’s Little Princess; What should the audience expect to see?
Thank you very much! It was an exciting movie to work on, and I have lots of great memories. The story is full of surprises and there are lots of emotional moments. I play a 12-year old girl, Lizzy, who finds out from a genetics test that she’s related to a royal family in Germany. She begins to act like an entitled princess and is determined to do anything necessary to find a way for her adopted mother to marry into the royal family.
We read the synopsis on your character Lizzy. What a great twist on DNA testing and having unexpected results. Have you done a DNA test?
As a matter of fact, yes, I have done a DNA test. I thought it would be cool to find out about my family history. While I was still filming, I ordered a DNA test for myself from Ancestry.com. I am still waiting for the results.
Awesome! It’s always fun to trace your ancestry. We imagine what happens to Lizzy could occur in life. Did you research real stories like your character?
I felt like I could imagine it happening to me, so I didn’t feel that I needed to research it. The character was so fun to play.
This is a silly but fun question. Have you ever wanted to be a princess?
Absolutely! I think a lot of little girls dream about being a princess, especially after watching Disney movies. When I was little I liked to dress up and pretend I was the princess Belle from Disney.
How did you audition for the role?
My agent submitted a self-tape audition that my parents helped me do at home. I was asked to perform the scenes with lots of emotion and energy, so I gave it my all and luckily, I got the part.
The subject matter of the series is awesome. In your opinion, how does the production bring something new to a thriller?
There are not a lot of thrillers with young kids as the lead. I think it’s different and interesting for an audience to see a kid in these types of situations.
What is going to surprise people about Lizzy?
Nothing is going to stop Lizzy, so the audience will be surprised at how far she will go to get what she wants. I will just leave it at that because I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue and why?
I had so many great lines of dialogue; it’s hard to choose just one. I really wish I could share one with you, but we will have to wait for the movie to air.
When looking back on the production, what resonated with you the most and why?
When you are on set every day, you become good friends with the cast and crew. I became really close with the woman who played my mom, Alicia Leigh Willis. We practiced our lines together and she taught me a lot about acting.
In your opinion, what scene in the movie is going to blow people away and why?
There are a lot of exciting scenes that people will enjoy. You will just have to watch the movie and see for yourself.
What do you enjoy most about your character and role?
I really enjoyed the range of emotions Lizzy has in this movie. The way she handles all the different situations is crazy. If I tried to behave at home the way Lizzy does, I would be in a lot of trouble with my parents.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about the movie?
It was a fun movie to do. It’s very special to me because it’s my first lead role and everyone was so supportive.
You’re also starring a feature film and to series in 2019 – The Silence, and the new NBC series The InBetween, Tell us about them.
Yes, I’ve been very busy this year. Both of these projects were great experiences. I’m very excited for them to come out, but I can’t speak about them until closer to the release dates. The InBetween should premiere this summer.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about your career?
Acting has been one of the best experiences of my life so far. I’m going to keep acting as long as it stays fun.
Editor’s Note: The movie airs March 17th. Get details here.
