We are excited to share our interview with Tilda Del Toro. She shares tea on her new film “Night School” starring Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. Also, the biopic FONZO. Check it out below.
Hi, Tilda! Thank you for granting the interview. Your career is soaring and we’re excited to speak with you about “Night School” by Universal Pictures. Tell us about your role and character.
Hi OCCHI MAGAZINE! My character in “Night School” is Maria! I don’t want to spoil the fun about the movie, but let’s just say she’s a Latina in America!
What should the audience expect to see?
The audience should expect to see a hilarious comedy with an amazing cast (including me!) led by stars Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. It was such a great and free experience so you should expect to see some funny stuff by everyone!!
What would people be surprised to learn about your character?
You’ll have to wait and see it on screen!
How do you prepare for your role?
The most important and greatest tool in comedy is freedom. I prepared “Night School” by brushing up on my improvisation and creating so many different ways I could play her; different accents, no accent, different reactions, and scenarios etc.!
You’re also appearing in an upcoming Al Capone biopic called “FONZO.”
Yes! FONZO is a look at Al Capone played by Tom Hardy during his later years. It is a masterpiece in the making by writer/director Josh Trank. I can not talk too much about my character! I can tell you that you will enjoy this film immensely.
What should the audience expect to see?
An extremely unique film by the most talented actors and filmmakers in the world.
[su_pullquote align=”right”]”I have produced projects from ground zero and tenacity is essential too!”[/su_pullquote]When looking back on your career, what resonated with you the most and why?
Well, I’m still in the process of my career so I think there is plenty in the future, lol. But, what resonates the most so far is the process in which I grow every time I step forward and go into new areas. It’s also a very communal process and I have learned to work with all kinds of personalities. Also, the process of creation and having the patience for each step is very important! I have produced projects from ground zero and tenacity is essential too!
In your opinion, what makes a great movie?
Wow, so much. It’s so personal and subjective I think to every person. A great movie to me is a movie that affects me. That could be by the characters. It could also be by the cinematography, the style…anything that a film can offer.
What is your favorite movie line (quote) and why?
I have two!
1st: “Gilda”(1946) Gilda(Rita Hayworth): “Me? Sure…I’m decent.”
Classic, stunning and telling of her character. The subtext of who is she is the complexity of her effect on men.
2nd: “Three Kings” Archie Gates(George Clooney):
“The way it works is, you do the thing you’re scared shitless of, and you get the courage AFTER you do it, not before you do it.”
When I saw this movie that exact line stood out to me so much that I still hear it to this day. It’s about no matter what, you do it.
Do you have anything else you would like to share about your career?
Anyone who has a goal can make it. Go for it and you’ll truly find what you are looking for. Just know you have to be truly open. I look back and realize that I have stuck it out through thick and thin. It’s worth it to me. It’s a part of me. It does not define me, but is a driving passion that I love and nurture!
