The hippie era is a socially conscious, counterculture time, where protests were frequent, LSD (along with several drugs) was a thing, and sex was revolutionized. From 1965 to 1975, the youth-movement believed they could practically anything and with anyone. You were only limited by your imagination. It started in the United States but quickly became worldwide.
The era went on to spawn the Summer of Love, where over 100,000 people socialized and listened to some of the hottest emerging bands. The 1967 event took place in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco. This also prompted the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair, where over 400,000 people attended, celebrated, and rocked out to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and many more.
Some of the greatest fashions came from that era, as well. Even today, people will still rock that style of clothing, such as bell-bottom jeans, fringe shoulder bags, and large, ornate accessories. The modern hippie (also known as flower children) fashion is equated bohemian and hipster. Personally, I believe the bohemian style best reflects the 70s hippie fashion. It was inevitable that the era would generate hit films and a television show. If you’re a lover of that era, then you will enjoy watching the Austin Powers film series. Mike Myers (Wayne’s World, Shrek) repopularized the fashion in the late 90s when “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” was released on May 2, 1997. Its huge success generated two sequels, “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Austin Powers: Goldmember.” The best part of the movie is the characters, dialogue, and the fashion, especially when he had to go back in time to his era.

The American sitcom released on August 23, 1998. I still believe the success of Austin Powers’ 1997 hit was the catalyst to this television series’ creation and its hit factor. The storyline is set in the 1970s and creates a sense of nostalgia for those who lived in the era.
