We had the wonderful opportunity to interview Daniel Thone on his latest lead role as Moe in “Growing Pains.”
Hi, Daniel! Thank you for granting the interview. Congrats on your lead role as Moe in “Growing Pains.” What should the audience expect to see?
Growing Pains is a Dark Comedy following two best friends who must pay back their mob boss by growing Cannabis in the basement of their local suburban home.
Tell us about Moe. Who is he? What is his personality like?
Moe is the friend in your group who isn’t all there in the head, the one who is everybody’s friend, and never thinks before he acts.
What role does Moe play in the film?
Moe is the handy best friend and sidekick to Clive, childhood best friends who always have had each other back in the underworld of drug dealing, serving as a younger brother to Clive.
Was it a challenge to play Moe? Did you have to pull from experience?
No, it was just a lot of experimenting and fun playing around with different characteristics bringing the character to life. I didn’t have to pull from any experience.
How did you get the role?
I worked with the creator a few times before, he said he had a bigger project in the works, Offered me one of the lead roles, from there, we worked on bringing his character alive.
The subject matter of the film is very entertaining. How does the movie production bring something new to the story?
They bring in more twists and plot points to help propel the story forward.
What is going to surprise people about Moe?
His minor moments of luck and ingeniousness.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of “Growing Pains” dialogue and why?
A sprinkle of Moe, because if there is a way to do something wrong, Moe will find that way to do it.
When looking back on the production, what resonated with you the most and why?
The character is so accident prone, and always tries his best, but it never works out.
In your opinion, what scene in the film is going to blow people away and why?
The pool room scene in episode 5, because the outcome is seriously unexpected.
What do you enjoy most about your character and role?
I get to just have fun an be a goof, being the lovable idiot character.

Are there any additional projects you would like to share?
The upcoming Project I am working on is called ‘mArk”, a story following a disabled male and his younger sister who is has a solo career, played by Alicia Banit (Dance Academy, Playing for Keeps).
