KVNE

We had the wonderful opportunity to chat with KVNE about his latest single. Check out the interview below.

Hi, KVNE! Thank you for granting the interview. Your music is amazing and we’re excited to speak with you about. What can you tell listeners about your new single “Cotton Candy” that recently released?

Hey everyone! My new single “Cotton Candy” was made to make you want to move. It’s a very high-energy and exciting production that will definitely leave a sweet taste in your mouth. You can find it on all major streaming platforms, as well as my new website www.kvne.club.

Tell us what inspired “Cotton Candy?”

The main inspiration behind the song was that I wanted to put something out that was completely different from any other sound I have released. All in all, the song came together fairly quickly. The chorus melody came to me instantly after hearing the production. I felt a certain swing to it, and all I kept thinking about was a super fun and colorful setting that I think really helped solidify the mood of the single.

“Cotton Candy” well make you move. It’s a groove anyone can vibe to anytime and anywhere. You produced it with lifelong friend, Joshua Stanford (SHWAH).

Absolutely! I’ve known SHWAH since we were about 12 or 13 years old. We’ve played in several bands together and recently reunited to focus on my own artistry. He came into the studio one night, and played a couple of beats for me, one of them being the beat to “Cotton Candy”. As soon as I heard the main synth melody to the song, I knew exactly what to do with it and had to start writing to it right away.

Tell us about your songwriting process. How do you choose a topic to sing about?

It normally comes pretty organically. Most times the concept comes from a single line and melody that sets the vibe or compliments the beat perfectly. I also prefer to have other collaborators and creatives in the studio with me. My creative team is all beyond talented and I always value their input and feedback on all projects.

What has been your biggest challenge as a singer and songwriter?

My biggest challenge has probably been balancing everything. Between the late nights in the studio for my own music, I also work for my own label, KillaKollective, where I’m the lead audio and mixing engineer. Aside from my career in music, I’m also a single dad to my 3-year-old, so making sure I have that right balance can get tricky sometimes.

What’s the ultimate direction of your music?

The main message I want to spread through my music is that it is really easy to get lost in life, so always remember the importance of experiencing and enjoying it – bask in the moments, and don’t just go through the motions.  I also want to ultimately speak to people through my music and spread such messages, hoping to let others know that they’re not alone in whatever feeling or event they are going through.

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?

All my music can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and all major streaming platforms. I will also be performing live in Toronto on November 15th at Supermarket for KillaKollective’s Scorpio Season alongside Stitch, Julian Broderick, and more great local talent.

What are your musical icons/influences?

My musical influences definitely range across various genres. I always really loved experimental indies such as Alt J, Glass Animals, and Jaymes Young. Other big influences for my artistry include Post Malone, Young Thug, and Blackbear.

When looking back on the production of “Cotton Candy,” what resonated with you the most and why?

It would definitely have to be the steel drum undertone in the main melody. I instantly connected to it the first time I heard it. Nonetheless, the whole percussion section in this song is something that resonated with me immediately. I remember Josh (SHWAH) had posted a snippet of him putting the drum samples together on his Instagram, and I loved it so much that I messaged him right away and told him that this was a song I absolutely had to be on.

In your opinion, how could a songwriter make an impact on the world?

I think it comes down to consistency. This doesn’t necessarily apply to your style of music or your content, but the messages you spread. Collaboration is also extremely important; finding people who share the same passion or believe in your message plays a huge part in the impact you will make.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose this career? Would you do anything?

Although I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, there are probably a couple things I might’ve tried differently a second time around. Nonetheless, I would not trade this career for anything, and I am extremely grateful for all my learning experiences.
