Emei is an alt-pop singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles who developed her stage presence by competing on Chinese Idol at 15. After receiving a third place on the show through months of stadium shows, Emei began releasing her own music on Chinese platforms and eventually performing on Dancing with the Stars of China. Entitled “Trust Issues” her current song was initially inspired by a dream where Emei shaved her head—apparently signaling a desire to “let go”. Growing up with immigrant parents who over-emphasized independence, Emei has always had trouble trusting others. Now, becoming an adult, she has been forced to face the problems that this self-reliance can cause. “Trust Issues” navigates what it feels like to grow up and the realization that there’s no way to rely on yourself through it all.
