Previously featured Casii Stephan is an MN-born, indie-pop meets soul-rock singer-songwriter now based in Tulsa, OK.  Stephan’s voice is now fierce and fearless, but it wasn’t always like that. She used to be a shy person afraid of using her voice. When she was 16, she started writing songs on the family piano which helped her gain confidence. Casii moved to Tulsa in 2014 intending to give up her dream of pursuing a music career. However, a friend encouraged her to keep writing songs and in 2016, she started releasing music. Since then, she has won national songwriting awards, performed at official SXSW and Folk Alliance showcases, toured regionally, and even performed at the virtual Sundance Film Festival. Casii’s talent has been recognized by various platforms such as Billboard, NPR, and American Songwriter.

Casii writes her songs honestly, from the depths of her emotions, with lyrics that push back on negative societal norms like sexism, ageism, and “playing nice” as a woman.  She uses writing to deconstruct her beliefs with an underlying hope that things can change, inviting listeners on their own journey. In October, Casii signed with TRO Essex Music Publishing, joining talented folk writers such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seger, and iconic rock bands like The Who, Black Sabbath, and Pink Floyd.

The songwriter recently traveled to Muscle Shoals, Alabama to record with producer Ben Tanner, who has worked with artists such as Alabama Shakes , and St. Paul and the Broken Bones. The upcoming EP, titled “Relationship Status”, takes the listener on an emotional journey of transitioning from one relationship status to another and ultimately realizing that these statuses do not define them. The single, “Wine & Gold” is specifically about being in love, with Casii explaining, “Welcome to being completely obsessed and consumed by love. This is the kind of love that grabs you off of the bar stool you were sitting on and dances with you until your feet start bleeding. It feels good, but your friends might have some questions. I hope this song makes you smile, dance, and have fun, but don’t forget to take a break and go to bed at some point.” The “Relationship Status” EP is scheduled for release later this spring.
