Epiphany “Big Piph” Morrow is a Stanford-educated engineer who decided rapping was a better career choice. This community builder from Pine Bluff, Arkansas performs regularly with his seven-piece band, Tomorrow Maybe, and is the lead coordinator of The F.A.M. Project which empowers future youth leaders to become present ones. He also is a noted speaker and serves as a “Cultural Ambassador” traveling abroad to countries such as Morocco, Algeria, Ghana, Seychelles, Thailand, and more.  While there, he not only performs but holds workshops and creates with local artists. He has a one-man show entitled “The Glow”, described as if “TED Talks were a Hip-Hop concert wrapped in an OG Spike Lee narrative” that is now a digital series with PBS. He also facilitates hip-hop workshops, is a noted speaker, and is currently finishing his new creative endeavor, Far From Finished, which is a web series and soundtrack. We had the pleasure of speaking with him about his work.

Thank you for agreeing to catch up with Occhi Magazine. For readers unfamiliar with you and your background, what drew you to a career in the arts?

I was actually studying mechanical engineering at Stanford. Around my junior year, I fell in love with performing, which combined with my love of hip-hop. To my parents, friends, and even my surprise, I decided to become an artist by my senior year. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Who were your early influencers and how did they impact your career?

I used to run with a crew in my label called Conduit Entertainment. It consisted of my homeboy on the business end and a few artists as well. We then linked with a production duo called Dat Heat. In all, it was like 10 artists and minds just learning, creating, and building together. Although all eventually fizzled out, I never learned as much as an artist at any time besides that period.

Which three traits define you?

I haven’t been asked this one before. I appreciate it. I’d say that I’m a good listener, empathetic, and determined to continually live in the best version of myself, which means helping others do the same.

Please tell us about your latest project

I’m focused on my web series and accompanying soundtrack called FAR FROM FINISHED. It’s eight, 8-10 minute episodes based on being a success in your own right, but still going for “the dream”. It began rolling out on 3/15. Also, there’s new music with it, so hey, I’m amped.

What other projects are in the pipeline?

At the moment it’s just Far From Finished. Besides that, I’m conducting a hip-hop program in the Philippines through Next Level and am prepping season 2 of my digital series with PBS.
