30 Beats is a film about a series of steamy sexual encounters that connects a group of people during a summer heat wave. The R-rated, romantic, comedy film was released July 20, 2012, and directed by Alexis Lloyd. The one million budget was put to good use. The focus was on the characters, dialogue, and relationships. Set in New York, the location added a sense of raw grit that you rarely see in films today.
The cast is superb, so it’s surprising to see that the film scored low. Jennifer Tilly, Ingeborga Dapkunayte, and Paz de la Huerta lead the cast. Most of the interaction surrounded them. One of the most interesting roles is Lee Pace as Matt the Chiropractor. He played Matt with great charisma and charm who attempts to refuse the lustful offers from a patient. Eventually, Matt succumbs but he soon realizes he may have received more than expected when he discovers how sexually active his new partner is. Too late to have the that “sex talk,” buddy!
The movie is exciting and is a must-watch if you are a fan of steamy and erotic romantic movies. The cinematography and directing was masterful, capturing the essence of each character’s interaction. The camera angles changed to suit the mood and the environment which made the scenes more thrilling. The cinematography also portrayed New York City as a place of self-discovery.
Again, 30 Beats has a fair share of erotic scenes, so have a bucket of ice handy. The film is about the art of seduction, spontaneity, and exploration. The mood and tone were set to enhance lustful and dramatic scenes. The music scored by C. C. Adcock helped carry the scenes. The explosive reaction between the characters is the best part of the film. People giving in to their desires and willing to explore them is enough to satisfy many “what if” thinkers. Connections are made from one lover to another. It’s almost like a Sexually Transmitted Disease gove viral. This could also make for great birth control and STD prevention film. The characters are quite memorable and everyone played their roles flawlessly, which makes 30 Beats special and different from other films.
