Welcome to my article on some of the best romantic movies for singles. Yes, for singles! Contrary to how society views uncoupled people, we aren’t miserable, sad, lonely, creatures, who can’t live a fulfilling life. Further, many are single by choice because they don’t believe in settling on love. I’m one of those people. Never settle just for being in a relationship, and neither should you wait to meet that person you connect with. It may never happen. It’s better to enjoy your life to the fullest, and that includes watching romantic movies. With that said, even if you’re not in a relationship you can still enjoy romance. So, I compiled a list of some of my favorites to share with you. Whether you’re in a relationship or single, I believe you will enjoy the movie I’ve chosen.

Please note this is not a traditional review, where I critique the production. My focus is on the characters and why I like them. I’m simply sharing my personal experience. 🙂

All of the movies listed can be found on DVD Netflix.  Rent one today!

The Synopsis

“A young man wants a second chance at love, though the object of his affection isn’t sure there was ever any love in the first place in this independent comedy. Sam (Michael Angarano) is a relentlessly confident would-be author in his mid-twenties who stumbled into a short-term relationship with Zoe (Uma Thurman), a beautiful woman in her late thirties with a bad habit of dating men who aren’t right for her. While Zoe is very much over Sam, he’s convinced they were truly in love, so he’s upset to learn she’s engaged to marry Whit Coutell (Lee Pace), a successful but colossally arrogant director of wildlife documentaries. Sam wants another chance with Zoe, so he persuades his best friend, Marshall (Reece Thompson), to join him for a trip to Long Island, where they’ll hang out with some of their buddies. What Sam really has in mind, though, is to crash Zoe and Whit’s weekend-long wedding festivities and convince her that he’s the right man for her. However, Zoe’s immediate reaction suggests that persuading her to leave Whit for Sam is going to be a very tough sell. Ceremony was the first feature film from writer and director Max Winkler, son of actor Henry Winkler.” ~ Mark Deming, Rovi (Source: Fandango)

The Overview

The object of your affection may appear closer than they are. After watching this film, that was the first thought that came to mind. Sam is a relatable character. I mean who doesn’t know of, or has been, a “Sam” at some point in their life? Michael Angarano did an excellent job conveying Sam’s emotions and his feelings for Zoe (Uma Thurman). Seeing the longing in his gaze as he watched her and Whit (Lee Pace) interact was heartfelt. Although it’s eluded that the affair between Sam and Zoe was brief, it clearly had a profound effect on Sam. He connected with her, and, unfortunately, Zoe clearly didn’t share the sentiment. However, she is fond of Sam, but she loves Whit, with who she shares a history. I imagine it was Whit’s arrogance that tested her love.

Lee Pace did a marvelous job with Whit, playing him as the arrogant, self-centered director, with a soul. He loves Zoe. He didn’t realize how much until Sam appeared.  That’s typically the case in real life. There are those who don’t realize what they have until faced with losing it. I believe Zoe loves Whit, but she’s also confused as to why. This could have been written better, but I went along with that assumption after viewing the closing scene. Sorry! Can’t spoil it!

My Thoughts

If you’re looking for a fun, romantic movie, with a touch of comedy, then this may be the one for you. It’s not oozing with romantic scenes, but it’s just enough to make you smile at the end. Ceremony is available on DVD Netflix. #dvd20 #ad #dvdnation
