The Bruvs - Clay's Winebar

I don’t know what I was honestly expecting to see when I saw this animated show about two of the ugliest looking cartoon humanoids, making weird songs and spraying each other in the face with aerosol cans after stinking up the bathroom…but it certainly wasn’t that. “The Bruvs” feels like something you’d see out of “Adult Swim” on Cartoon Network, but even more after hours and even then; it’s more likely to appear as one of their brief, quick, weirdly musical ads that make no sense, that’s what “The Bruvs” feel like.

The animation is exceptionally drawn considering how repulsively ugly these foul-mouthed “buggers” are supposed to look, which again only attributes to the quality of the animation. You need to put some real effort into making someone look REAL ugly. The shorts are a weird, bizarre mix of having the “Bruvs” do something stupid for 2 and a half minutes or pulling out butt backward songs like “Bollox” or “We’re the Bruvs.” While I applaud the credit and effort put into the animation and striking designs, I can’t say the humor ever really found its audience in me.

To be blunt: I don’t get it. It’s not crude enough to be that gutter trash gut-busting but neither is it slyly, subtly smart with its warped humor to be funny without its trashiness. Perhaps that’s part of the gag or what makes these “Bruvs” who and what they are, but I’d be lying if I said I understood what they were throwing down. Bottom line: it’s not for me, I don’t know what it is supposed to be and I don’t think either of those will ever change. Check it out if you want to see something you can’t un-see and are unsure if you’ll ever figure out what the Hell it is.
