HERO: Inspired by the Extraordinary Life of Ulric Cross

Inspired by the Extraordinary Life and Times of Mr. Ulric Cross, Frances-Anne Solomon’s award-winning film provides a chronological account of the celebrated Trinidadian jurist, diplomat, and Royal Air Force navigator. After becoming the most decorated West Indian in WWII, Cross befriended fellow Trinidadians CLR James and George Padmore, leading black communists and Pan-Africanists, and continued an extraordinary life serving liberation movements and governments of other African nations.

The film masterfully documents the international politics and intrigue surrounding Pan-Africanism, presents an international cast. Trinidad and Tobago’s Nicolai Salcedo, who commands much attention in his portrayal of Cross, is supported by UK stars Joseph Marcell (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Fraser James (Resident Evil), Pippa Nixon (John Carter), Canada’s Peter Williams (Stargate SG1), and Ghanaian actors John Dumelo, Adjetey Anang and Prince David Oseia.

A thought-provoking, entertaining and immersive film that skillfully merges competent documentary filmmaking with arresting dramatization of historic events. It is a story that warrants the attention of anyone seeking examples of how an individual can contribute to society and the fortunes of the diaspora. In short, this is a well-composed, acted and thoroughly enjoyable 110 minutes, that touches all emotions. Moreover, it illustrates what ambition, self believe and drive will achieve.
