John Ellis’ new album, “Heroes,” is a compelling addition to any jazz enthusiast’s collection. Known for his versatility as a saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer, Ellis brings a thoughtful blend of New Orleans’ vibrant spirit and New York City’s dynamic energy to his music.
In “Heroes,” Ellis explores the sax/trumpet quintet model, presenting eight original compositions inspired by various “heroes” in his life, including mentors, legends, friends, and family. The album features the talents of pianist Gary Versace, bassist Reuben Rogers, trumpeter Mike Rodriguez from SFJazz Collective, and drummer Kush Abadey, known for his work with Melissa Aldana and Ethan Iverson.
Set for release on March 14th, “Heroes” showcases his ability to blend intellect with musicianship.
