As a 6 old, Ivy Mae Anderson was awarded the Best Runway Model in a state-wide model discovery contest. Agency representation followed soon after, with regular bookings for fashion modeling and commercial work. Born in Brisbane, Australia, Ivy expanded her career internationally with modeling and cheer-leading opportunities. She worked with brands such as Rebel Athletic, Tourism Australia and appeared at New York Fashion Week for Chick clothing. She now features in the film ‘To The Beat! Back 2 School’. We had a chat with her about her career and the crossover from modeling to movies.
Hi, Ivy! Thank you for granting the interview. Congratulations on your modeling career and break into film. Firstly, please tell us how you got into modeling at the age of 6?
I knew I wanted to model the day I saw my first runway show on TV. I begged my mother to enter me in a local modeling competition and she reluctantly agreed. I ended up winning the competition out of hundreds of entries. I was given a 2-year contract as part of the prize and I have been consistently working ever since.
You have modeled for Rebel Athletic, Tourism Australia and participated in New York Fashion Week for Chick clothing. Please share your experiences?
I have been so lucky being able to travel the world doing what I love. I have modeled in London and Venice, Italy with Rebel Athletic. This was a dream come true, wearing the most amazing designs in such beautiful locations. NYFW is such a highlight because there is such a buzz to these busy shows.
What do you enjoy most about your modeling career?
The people I get to work with. So many amazing talents coming together to make art in every form. I can’t believe I have been lucky enough to get to work in this industry.
You’re about to feature in your first full-length feature film ‘To The Beat! Back 2 School’. Please tell us more about the film and how you got involved?
I was lucky enough to be offered a role in the next installment of the Netflix movie series To The Beat. There are many secrets in the plot of the movie so I can’t say too much. But the 80s themed Spring Fling dance in the movie should be a highlight.
Which do you prefer, modeling or acting?
I enjoy them both for different reasons. I feel like there is so much acting in modeling already. The ability to convey emotion and sell a feeling is what makes a good model.
You’re very busy at present. Do you have anything else in the pipeline we can look forward to?
It is just in the early stages, but I am working with producers on a cheerleading feature film. It will be very cool to combine two things I love. Even though I don’t compete as a cheerleader anymore because of my schedule, playing a character that is a cheerleader should feel very natural.
So where can we keep up to date with your activities?
