Aaron Beri is a multi-talented singer-songwriter that captivates audiences with his emotive, soulful voice and eclectic sound. Beginning his career as a professional model and beginning to pursue music in 2018, the British-born, Australian native boasts a catalog of work that features his exceptional musical style that marries smooth R&B grooves with a modern, current feel. We caught up with him to discuss his career.

Aaron, thanks for taking the time to speak to us about your work. How and when did you decide to fully embrace a career in music?

Hello! Thank you for having me. It hasn’t been too long since I jumped into doing music full-time; I would say I’ve been professionally pursuing music since 2018. It’s wild to think about how much I’ve learned and experienced in less than five years.

Who has been most influential in your career?

It’s totally cheesy, but it really is the fans! They keep me motivated and push me to strive to create beautiful tracks. There’s nothing quite like their energy.

Please tell us more about your current single, “Run Away,”.

“Run Away” was born from my frustrations with the Australian music industry. The label heads, A&R representatives, and the general music scene there were continuously labeling my music as ‘alternative’. To me, it’s completely not, as my music is so heavily R&B-influenced, so having it mislabeled really puzzled and frustrated me. I ran away (pun intended) from that world to take a break and release the music on my terms. “Run Away” is airy and mysterious, with dark undertones. I also get to showcase some whistle tones on it, which is totally new for me.

Many artists have marked this difficult period as significant in their careers and songwriting. What do you think the industry will look like, particularly for independent artists, moving forward?

The double-edged nature of the music industry comes from its unpredictability, which can be both great and irritating at the same time. I think the general population has been waking up and craving something more ‘real’ lately. The days of having artists’ music forced on them are coming to an end really quickly as people look for what they want and what resonates with them. There’s a reset happening, and I think this new view will show itself in the coming years.

You’ve worked with award-winning producers, responsible for hits performed by Justin Bieber, Usher, Nicole Scherzinger, to name a few. Please share your approach to creating your sound.

It’s definitely a process. At its core, creating your own sound is about being true to your own voice. It all comes from the voice you speak with, after all. I never walk into the studio with a track by another artist and say, “I want something like this”’. I’m old school— piano, chords, and whatever melody is in my head. Then, we build upwards from there. I never imitate or try to recreate. I think that’s a key strategy and a strength.

What has been your greatest challenge as a musician and songwriter?

For me, it was deciding who, exactly, I wanted to be. As a Gemini, I sometimes feel that a different personality wakes up inside me and says, “I want to be a country singer today”. It’s turbulent—I love so many sounds and vibes. Being true to my own voice, which can be quite the chameleon, requires A LOT of focus.

As mentioned earlier, you have worked with several highly respected people in the music industry. Who would you love to collaborate with next and why?

It’s tough to choose just a few, but I would love to duet with Toni Braxton, put out a track with Diplo, and work with the legendary Tommy Brown.

What projects should we look forward to seeing you involved in?

Something I’m looking forward to is going on tour in Brazil next year. My album, “Paris to Vegas”, is finally almost ready to drop and I can’t wait to perform it live. I’m really excited for the fans to hear what I’ve been working on.
