Meet Valeria Jauregui. Valeria competed in La Voz Kids (The Voice Mexico) and earned a spot in the finals. Now she’s making her mark on the small screen in the hit FOX drama Deputy. When the elected sheriff dies, Bill Hollister (Stephen Dorff), a lawman only interested in justice, gets thrown into the job as acting sheriff. Valeria stars as Bill’s daughter, Maggie. Occhi Magazine had the opportunity to speak to this rising star about the series, her acting career, and her musical ambitions.

Hi Valeria. Thank you for granting the interview. Congratulations on your career so far. How did you get into acting?

Thank you for having me! I was a timid child in public and really outgoing in my room and where I felt comfortable. My mom, who has always had an unwavering faith in me, pushed me to audition for theatre, and that’s sort of where it all began. I guess I just felt such rapturous joy when acting that I never wanted to stop.  I’m also a very demonstrative person by nature so that helps.

You currently star with Steven Dorff in the FOX drama Deputy. How did you land the part and what can audiences expect if they tune in to the show?

I booked Deputy in quite a funny way actually. I recorded the audition with my oldest brother who, of all of us in the family, is the least talented when it comes to showing the slightest bit of emotion. His dead voice pitch and mannerisms were what lead to me transmitting exaggerated sarcasm to try to push his reading skills and I guess they liked it and I got the role. Audiences can expect many variations of action-packed drama on top of a police department driven theme. Much sincerity along with relatable characters and lightheartedness as well.

Are there any other leading actors you would love to work with and why?

So many wow. Natalie Portman being one, I think she is so incredible and timeless and such a good actress and person. I am also a huge fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda. Everything about that man is amazing and I believe he is one of the geniuses among us and just to live in the same era as him is honoring. [laughs] Can you tell I’m a fan of Hamilton?

You competed in La Voz Kids (The Voice Mexico) and earned a spot in the finals. Are your singing aspirations just as important as establishing a successful acting career?

YES! Thank you for this question! I love singing and it is actually the passion that brought me to acting so to not pursue it as well would be to stab 5 year old me in the heart.

What advice would you give our younger readers seeking a career in the arts and entertainment industries?

Stay true to yourself and never limit your learning for there is always something to learn to expand your mind and acting space. It will get hard and you’ll have to make sacrifices so make sure you really love it for when you love something the hard things won’t matter much.

Do you have anything else in the pipeline we can look forward to?

I am currently working on my music, auditioning, continuing to train, and looking forward to whatever this crazy life has planned for me in the future!

So where can we keep up to date with your activities?
