Carina Battrick is an eight-year-old child actress from Toronto, Canada. A natural-born entertainer, Carina’s passion for acting and entertaining an audience has been evident from a very young age. By the age of two, she would perform little plays with her older sister and started dancing before she was even walking. Carina will be starring as Little Sarah in Oscar-nominated actor Viggo Mortensen’s highly anticipated directorial debut FALLING. The film will be making its world premiere at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival this September. We had the pleasure to talk to Carina about her promising career.
Hi Carina, thank you for granting the interview. Congratulations on your career to date. Please share with our readers how you got into acting.
I actually started dancing before I was walking. I think due to the fact that I am the middle child I would always need to work extra hard to get attention. I actually learned to read by reading scripts. I also naturally gravitate towards people, so acting is a great way to meet different people and learn more about the world outside of my comfort zone. I could approach any kid in a playground when I was younger and ask do you want to be my friend?
At four years old, you portrayed a young Tori Spelling in the television series Broke and Famous, and you were cast as Young Henry Coles in the highly popular sci-fi thriller series Impulse. What have been your most enjoyable experiences working in film and television so far?
I loved portraying Henry Coles as a child. It was my first role with lots of lines and I loved that I was able to be in season two as well. Some other memorable experiences to date were meeting Viggo Mortensen and Sofia Carson in real life. It is so special when someone you have seen on TV is actually super nice in person, and it’s even more special when you get to work with them. It was very exciting to see myself on a movie poster for Feel the Beat and to be able to simply open Netflix and see the movie with my sisters.
You will be starring as Little Sarah alongside actor Viggo Mortensen, in his highly anticipated directorial debut Falling. Please tell us more about your role and what we can expect.
My character little Sarah appears in the flashbacks as the younger Laura Linney who plays Viggo Mortensen’s sister in the movie. Her character is important because it shows the unconditional love a daughter has towards her father. Her character also helps show more dimensions of Viggo’s father portrayed by the legendary Lance Henriksen from a daughter’s point of view.
What other projects should we look forward to seeing you involved in?
I recently starred in Netflix’s summer hit Feel the beat. It is a dance movie with Sofia Carson. After failing to find success on Broadway, April returns to her hometown and is recruited to train a misfit group of young dancers. I am part of the main cast of the nine students that Sofia teaches how to dance. Being part of the movie was amazing since I am a dancer in real life, so it was really special to be able to work with the famous choreographer Mia Michaels on the dance routines. My character Michelle is one of the youngest dancers of the cast. She the younger sister of Nick portrayed by Wolfgang Novogratz, who is Sofia’s love interest in the movie.
