Vocalist  Karen Mack, a regular at some of the top New York City jazz venues, is releasing ‘Catch & Keep’, her debut jazz album this June 28th. The album is a collection of jazz standards and several songs that are off-the-beaten path, including a couple of originals.

Catch & Keep originally started as an EP of classic songs intended as a birthday gift for her mother-in-law. She collaborated with her longtime friend, the renowned jazz artist Peter Eldridge. As they chose the songs, their initial plan expanded into a full album. Mack has a special appreciation for less commonly performed songs and aims to highlight the work of female composers and lyricists, with more than half of the album comprising songs by women.

The project was co-produced (along with Mack) and arranged by Peter Eldridge, who is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed vocal group New York Voices. Eldridge, also a pianist and organist on the album, is joined by excellent New York players including Jesse Lewis on guitar, Matt Aronoff on bass, Jared Schonig on drums and percussion, and Toronto-based Ben Wittman on percussion. The album also features special guests Darmon Meader on saxophones, Nadje Noordhuis on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Elliot Roth, who provided piano, vocals, and arrangements for “It’s Hard to Say Goodbye”.

Mack received a 2024 Bistro Award for her evolution as a singer. She has transitioned from pop/rock to the Great American Songbook to contemporary jazz. This progression was natural for an artist with a passion for richly textured vocal harmony, wordplay, and improvisation.

Catch & Keep will be available at Bandcamp and digitally on all platforms.
