Wes Tate

Wes Tate has a short film called, “Saturday”, in which he stars and co-wrote. It is making the festival rounds. It recently screened at the Culver City Film Festival on December 9th. He also shot a short film while in Latvia called, “In Latvia In Love”. We had the wonderful opportunity to interview Wes before the Holidays. He was so gracious in answering our questions while on the road. Take a look at the interview below.

Hi, Wes! Thank you for granting the interview. Congratulations on your short film “Saturday.” We see it’s making the festival rounds. How has the feedback been, thus far?

Thank you so much! “Saturday” has been my baby and passion project. I’m so excited to see it be accepted into festivals. The feedback I’ve received for “Saturday” has been great! After screenings, we have so many people approach us and share their own personal connection with Autism and share with us which moments of the film moved them. It’s always great to hear that someone has connected to your work.

You also shot a short film while in Latvia called “In Latvia In Love.” What inspired the production?

Believe it or not, “In Latvia in Love” was inspired by a friend of mine who really did visit Latvia and fell in love. We joked about someone making a classic Hollywood love story out of it, so I just got a head start on it!

You have worked in several areas of the entertainment industry. However, filmmaking appears to be your passion. What fuels it?

Ultimately, I want to be a great storyteller. Being a filmmaker is so empowering because I am taking the craft into my own hands and making it happen. So many lose precious time by waiting around to be hired for a project or waiting to be cast. Life is too short for all of that, and sadly we do have a limited amount of time in which we can play certain roles. So it’s time to move!

What can the audience expect from “Saturday?”

Viewers can expect to see both a raw look at Autism and a strong story about brotherly love.

What are your expectations for it?

I would love to see “Saturday” accepted into more festivals before posting it for the world to see. It really is a touching film that keeps getting better the more you see it.

Thus far, what has been the best experience working in the industry?

Honestly, the best experience is seeing or hearing an audience react to your work. Nothing is more thrilling than hearing a crowd laugh at a joke or “aww” in unison. And sometimes the stillness and silence of a completely engaged audience really is the greatest and most rewarding experience.

Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?

I actually have two projects coming up! One is called “A Christmas Dinner” that is being released right now and can be viewed on YouTube. The second project is slated to be filmed in January! I will be teaming up with Jeff Houkal, from “Saturday,” and this time we’ll be making a dramatic thriller!. I can’t wait!

Complete this sentence, if I had an opportunity to do anything I want, I would do ___________.

If I could anything, I would transition into full-time filmmaking. I am definitely a modern-day Hollywood hustler. I work a full-time job, and then the evenings and weekends are filled with filming, writing, and classes, which I will say have driven me to tell more compelling stories. I can’t wait to focus my full attention on filmmaking!
