The Haves and the Have Nots is a drama series written by Tyler Perry, focusing on the intersecting lives of the wealthy Cryer and Harrington families, and the poor Young family. Geovanni plays recurring character ‘Broderick’. The series stars Crystal Fox, Tika Sumpter, John Schneider, and Renee Lawless. Season 5 premiered on January 9, 2018, on the OWN Network.
Recently, Geovanni was seen guest starring on the NBC comedy series Will & Grace as ‘Alejandro’ on the March 1st episode entitled Three Wise Men. Additional TV credits include True Blood, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, Animal Kingdom, and Major Crimes. In addition to TV, Geovanni has appeared in films that have included Paul Bart: Mall Cop 2, Heterosexual Jill, and Empire of the Heart.
We had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Geovanni. Check out the interview below.
Hi, Geovanni! Thank you for granting the interview. You have an amazing portfolio! Tell us about OWN’s The Haves and the Have Nots and your character Broderick.
The Haves and the Have Nots is a drama series written by Tyler Perry, focusing on the intersecting lives of the wealthy Cryer and Harrington families, and the poor Young family. Broderick is eager to acquire his idea of the American dream through questionable methods and you will see the reason for his motives in the upcoming episodes in May.
We will be on the lookout! So, tell us about Will & Grace! What was your experience like working on the series?
It was my first time working on such a beloved show! I was surprised at the amount of work that’s put into a 30-minute sitcom when you consider the actors make it seem so effortless. I’m thankful to have been privy to the process of those comedic geniuses.
Have you considered directing your own film?
I have had the honor in the past and I’m preparing to direct another very soon. Keep up with my social media for more details!
What do you enjoy most about the film industry?
I enjoy very much the creative process of storytelling whether acting or directing.
You continuously hone your craft. What keeps you inspired and motivated?
It would have to be because of the discovery and growth that I experience with each role.
Thus far, what has been your favorite role to date?
So far, the role of Ramos in Mall Cop 2. The role gave me the opportunity to do all my own stunts and then after the film was released, I had the opportunity to share the work that I do with my family and friends around the world. Which was very special to me.
Do you have any upcoming projects that we haven’t mentioned?
I have 22 episodes of The Haves and the Have Nots coming soon that I am very excited for the fans to see. Also, I continue to support the Special Olympics and the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign. “Spread the Word to End the Word” is an ongoing effort by the Special Olympics and Best Buddies International to raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word “retard(ed)” and encourage people to pledge to stop using the R-word. The campaign, created by youth, is intended to engage schools organizations and communities to rally and pledge their support. I recently participated in a panel at UCLA, which meant a lot to me.
